I just get the feeling alot of his issues have come from his training. Well, Gym work. Remember that skinny kid Running round the pitch non stop, more from the wings then ever central. the lad was as flexible as you could get. Within about 18months of gym work bulking himself up a bit and he's suddenly lost that flexibility and does the same leg injuries every time he stretches for the ball...
I think you could be right.

To me its the calibre of striker we need to sign and the clubs mindset around that - its easy to sign a Kone, Valencia, Rondon or Maupay and say to yourself at worst they'll give us an option for 15 games. Well the worst happened and how we stayed up without a centre forward is actually beyond me - it was a miracle, [probably our most miraculous escape. We cant sign a Beta striker again - it doesn't work because we will need to rely on them.

We need not to sign a b striker as listed above - we need someone with aspirations to play in the PL whether that be the championship, overseas or someone not getting a game further up the food chain in the PL and compete to be the top striker at the club - we aren't signing some one already established and getting regular PL games.

One no 9 and one wide forward.
Spot on. Still don't think Dyche's achievements keeping that squad up have sunk in. Literally no forward, we stayed up. Much reduced LB and RB. He kept us up. And it's not like the fears of throwback football to Alladyce came true either. We passed and showed energy, and an improved defence, plus JP excellent stops when needed.

In essence an improved collective, covering for known weak spots. Lacking a forward did flag up some qualities in the team we perhaps had not used fully enough before

- Iwobi has been good going forward, dropping in midfield and covering at the back.
- McNeil - a bigger threat than certainly I thought and saw in 1st half of the season
- Pattinson promising when fit
- Simms / Cannon potential... still a bit unknown

With Pattinson's injuries, and Myko not really bossing the left, we cannot ignore these positions as well as the CF / striker roles.

With Gray, McNeil, Iwobi, I sort of think we have wide options currently.
Garner, Doucs, Onana (if not sold) Gana in centre-mid.
CF- DCL *haha and who...
RB, Seamus can't roll back the clock forever (but love the guy), JP if we keep him, Tarks, but Keane, Mina and COady could be on their way, so that leaves Branthwaite and Myko with Holgate as cover.

Looks thin doesn't it?

We need to buy a really big box of cotton wool for DCL. We are so much more effective when he plays
It's utterly depressing to believe we'll sytill be reliant on this feller for a moment longer.

Just end this nightmarte and get two forwards in. Fat chance of that like, but we cant carry on with this fairy story of DCL coming back from injury. It's childlike to think he can.

Why would anyone pay serious money for a forward with a poor strike rate and ever-worsening injury record?

Well that's my argument in getting shut of him right away and paying up his contract.

But there'd be buyers for DCL. There'll always be some mug to take a forward with a decent goal scoring record despite the last 2 years worth of injuries.

If he's put up for sale we'll see some interest.

Oooor get two competent forwards in and still have DCL as an extra option

It’s true though. We are better with him. Mostly because we don’t have any strikers without him ! Maupay and Simms are not at the races. I agree we need two. I am not sure we will even get one though

Good post mate.

Not sure the squad is thin number wise - but in terms of options it is - the likes of Gomes, Dele and Gbamin are dead spots in the squad really (dont get me started on the cost).

In other areas we are too heavy, centre back in particular - other areas we are to light wide forward, full back and upfront.

Their are areas i look at i think we can improve, wide positions, ive been pleasantly surprised by McNeill - but he has to maintain the form.

Gray i think if we were player trading is a position we could improve on.

Iwobi also for me is player we could improve on, he is capable of great moments, but also really poor ones - but ultimately i feel he has no control to his game or performances and never will - hes useful on about 50k a week - but hes never a 100k a week player so i would move on because for that wage we can improve him.

Ultimately though i agree with you, bottom line we need a centre forward, a left full and a wide forward at minimum.

Im expecting nothing specutacular, strong steady signings. Ultmately it wont be about individual players, i think like you - that it will be about the collective - we will be more then invidivdual names, or stars but collectively stronger.

That's how it will be and probably how it needs to be, given our finances and also the overhang in the squad still.

Yeah, this. Who would you bring in?

I sort of think we need 3 x 'instant' fit (a LB who can bomb on, a CB and CF) and then 3x players who will hopefully grow like Iwobi and McNeil, in RB, no.10 and middle of the park.
