Maybe a rest will help him come back stronger. Means we have to start Beto though who offers the team a lot less in terms of build up play. Tough one.

The fiishing from DCL is the worst it's been since he joined the club imo. In the early days the biggest problem was him struggling to get into position to even get a chance. The last 10 games has just been really out of character. Probably down to fatigue of playing more football than he has for a long time.

3 goals from pretty much 7xG tells you the level of his finishing so far this season

The most aggravating thing with that chance tonight is that is the type of goal he usually scores. He's not good at one on ones, he's ok at just redirecting and occassionally heading.

I get it, he's "the best striker we have" but that says massively more about us than him.

Needs putting on the bench and Beto giving a chance. The lone striker role is the most difficult in the game but you have to take chances when they come. DCL isn't doing that so someone else needs the opportunity.

Watching him week in week out it’s clear to me he’s not a natural striker. When he first came into the team he was played out wide and his strength was holding up the ball whilst we got up the field. He’s never been a good goal scorer and he never will be - he simply hasn’t got the killer instinct. Since his longated spell of injuries he’s become such a frustrating player to watch. For me the timing of his leaps for headers is all wrong, his instinctive movement or gamble-taking on where the ball will arrive is really poor and his finishing is average at best. I’m convinced he doesn’t know where the front post is because he’s not made a move towards it for years. With the crosses McNeill and Harrison provide he should be thriving - it’s effectively why both were brought in.
His work rate and effort doesn’t match the rest of the team presently - Beto is technically limited but he unsettles defenders whereas DCL simply doesn’t.

I don’t dislike the lad but for me he just isn’t a striker, natural or otherwise. He’s not even in the same level as journeymen like Callum Wilson, Dominic Solanke and Brian MBuemo all of whom have much better finishers instincts. There’s a reason we’ve never had a concrete offer for him. We have to accept he’s what he is and that he’s not a double-figure goal scorer. Not sure how accurate it is but overheard a convo last night that he’s never scored from outside the box for us.....if that’s true then that is really poor for an established number 9 in a top league.
