2023/24 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Why would Dyche risk his job to play DCL over Beto, if Beto were the better (or even in form) player?

Why did dyche risk his job by picking Keane every week who was on a one man mission to relegate us making mistakes every single game?

Your argument is terrible here

Short memories.

We've got to back the lad. Snarling at him does nobody no favours.

That was 2020. 4 years ago. The season he hit 13 was 2019. 5 years ago.
I mean thats a long time to be looking back hoping he'll come good.
I dont think he's a top player personally. He doesnt ever create anything off the bat himself. A lot of strikers will do that even now and then.
He's really stale right now. Not just in goals but his all round game is just timid.
Dont dislike him but we're a football club and he isn't cutting it at all in any aspect. Dangerous game waiting for him as we're currently sitting in the bottom 3 and over the last 20 games even an average striker might have put a few more points on the board and a few places higher.
The clubs carrying this fella at the moment. Harsh but true.

We broke a Premier League record for the number of defence configurations that season and Dyche wanted a settled defence, and Mina couldn't be relied on to stay fit.

Prior Man City, no team has conceded fewer goals (15) than Everton from open play so fair play to Dyche. Evidently he knows how to setup a team to defend.

Or you could say, he missed over half of last season, and we nearly went down, and he missed over half the season before and we also nearly went down. Whereas this year with him fully fit and in the side we have accrued lots more points.

When he doesn't play, we miss him, as a focal point, massively. Soz like, but it's not a myth at all.

Dyche’s defensive set up and Branthwaite are the reasons for that, we sure ain’t scoring more goals.

I think that's a very valid point, but it is a team game mate and DCL is also a very big plus when it comes to defending corners.

With our current squad options, and set up, we are better with him in the team, imo. Onions and that.

This season? When Keane has hardly played.

Mina was fit and ready for a dozen or so games last season but instead Keane kept.playing and kept making mistakes until he HAD to he dropped.

Mad how you are denying this

Sound mate, and the alternative is Beto. They're both the same age.

Shall we talk about what he was doing 5 years ago? He was working at KFC I think?

Everton are currently starring relegation in the face and need the strongest centre forward they have.

To me that's Calvert-Lewin.

You say he can't score off the bat himself, but this was the 1-0 winner vs West Ham;

^ I struggle to imagine Beto scoring that.

I'd love to have confidence Beto, but I've not seen it yet. Little asterisk of he needs time of course but that's one hell of a gamble considering our position. It's not as simple as "He can't do any worse than Calvert-Lewin" - without the deduction Calvert-Lewin is part of a team that is closer to Europe than Relegation. He's generally been decent even without the goals, except the last couple.

I assume they're also not seeing Beto do what needs to be done behind the scenes either.

Denying what? I'm telling you why Dyche persisted with Keane last season - he wanted a settled back four/stability at the back and Mina had hamstrings made of tofu mate.

You wanted us to keep Mina and Coady this summer - if we did that, Branthwaite wouldn't have had the route to the team Dyche gave him. Your beloved Mina who went to Fiorentina in the summer played about 2 games because of injury and before being moved on to the mighty Cagliari.

A reminder too that we were 19th and widely condemned and accepted as "down" without Keane playing a single minute last season.

Dyche clearly knows how to have a team defend well - he had Michael Keane in the form of his life at Burnley when we paid the fee we did - which fans were over the moon with at the time. He also has us defending really well this season - so maybe give him the benefit of the doubt.

Ultimately, Beto has been brought in as a second striker. I like Beto but DCL has an edge over him. The fact that he can’t hit the back of the net is another story.

its got to the stage now, or getting to the stage where alternatives might need looking at because as ive just posted in the relegation thread. We are still in the mix even though absolutely nothing has come from the strikers. That at the moment is 90% calvert lewin as he's had the shirt.
5 years ago is irrelevant. is there an argument that beto played in the last 20 games may have scored more than 0?
All im saying is it dangerous to keep waiting on clavert lewin. There here and now needs looking at. Not what either were doing 4 or 5 years ago.

Indeed, given our league position it's about the here and now.

I think Calvert-Lewin gives us a better chance of getting points than Beto.

What informs that opinion is I've seen Calvert-Lewin score goals at this level. Whatever you/anyone else says, that counts big time right now.

In 563 minutes of Prem football, I've saw Beto score one goal in a game that was already over, and he just ran in straight line.

If we're 12th, as we should be, I say give Beto an extended run to see if there is any composure/wider strength to his game than just being a bettering ram.

We're 18th though.
