I think its fair to say he should have scored more goals over the course of the season, 5 seems about fair, which ties into his xG.

But I think its also fair to say he hasnt had a wealth of chances.

And in some games, despite not scoring, he has certainly done a job for the team.

We have no fullbacks who can cross, our "wingers" are basically fullbacks, we lack a player who can thread a proper ball.

But hey ho, whats done is done.

I’ll be fair to Dom and say he is one of those strikers that is much more than his goals. He is definitely good at what he does and he can lead a line. He should either be paired with service or goalscorers behind him that he can bring into the game. Having said that, he needed to be better in front of goal. He had a stretch where he was just missing too many easy chances. Not quite as bad as Walcott was in front of net but definitely needs to improve.

Whenever I focus on watching Dom play, even without the ball, I see him working his butt off trying to make something happen. Some games he doesn't score goals, but I never see him not contributing im some manner. I hope he doesn't leave, but if he does, I wish him the best and will root for him as long as he isn't playing Everton.

Hasn't had a wealth of chances but it's fair to say he should have scored five more....

Which naturally begs the question:

If he should have scored five more then he had the chances to do so, didn't he???

5 chances over a season works out at a chance every 7 games Jake.

Im very sorry you cant math.

You were originally saying he should have scored 5 more goals from the existing chances he did have last season.

I'm very sorry you can't keep your intellectual dishonesty straight here @Goat

Not really mate, I feel 5 of the chances he had he should have scored, the way you and your ilk act, he was missing sitters every week and should be on 40 goals.

I also dont think we created a LOT for him.

But you expect Strikers of his quality to score more than 7 goals.

Anyway, im really not doing "this", its a waste of everybody's time, you consider my words "intellectually dishonest", so I dont see much point in taking this further.

It's so strange that you never see certain posters bringing up bad managers, supporting midfielders, or tactics as explanations for why Beto, Maupay, and Niasse have terrible goal scoring records in their threads.

Nope, those players are just poor strikers who can't score.
But those players bring nothing else to the game other than scoring goals.

DCL is well above average in all other areas of modern lone striker play.

His weakness is being clinical in front of goal - and this is clearly a big weakness.

Is this something that can be improved at this stage? Who knows. But DCL brings much more to the game aside from scoring goals. When Maupay wasn't scoring goals (which he didn't for us), he was a total liability out there. Same with Niasse

I’d take it as a compliment that he feels your intellectual goat.

Take the WIN.

It's also strange that some posters chose to disregard the tireless work DCL does without the ball, running into channels, his hold up play, coming a third of the pitch deep that he ever was when he was scoring regularly. Probably because if they mention this they then have to look at maupays disappearing act and betos trampoline esk touch and directionless running.

I suppose poster just use whatever suits the point they want to make

I'm just pointing out how mad it sounds to say "He doesn't get chances" and then follow up with "But he should have probably scored another 5 from the chances he did have".

It doesn't make any sense. If he had enough chances to put away 5, and didn't, then it isn't because he wasn't getting any chances is it?

Because tireless work without the ball, running into channels, and holding up the ball is what is expected of a striker when they aren't in the box pal.

Very Marcus Bent this.
