2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Tried it against Villa and the defender got a last ditch challenge in. That probably affected his confidence and he reverted to the mindset of 'just hit it hard and low and hit the target.'

I think it's a mental issue with him more than anything else as he seemed to get in a rut with his finishing too often. Players like Ollie Watkins don't because they always have that mentality that they will beat the keeper.

I think a sports psychologist or 'finishing' psychologist is his best bet if there is such a thing.

I guess that's more my point though. At the age of like 27 he has managed to round the keeper once not even score. I think I've seen him do a little dink over the keeper about twice...

A top striker has more to his locker than keeping it low and hard. A half decent keeper always has a chance, especially if they know the onrushing striker won't try anything else.

This will be the manager who insists he doesn’t need to employ a striking coach, yes?
Exactly
Strikers shouldn't need coaching to put the ball in the net

That's their job.

Has anyone brought up Ancelotti yet today?

Yes.

It's a bit forgiveable when a striker scores 15 goals like he did under Carlo, but he's been in the top 10 of missed chances every year since Carlo was appointed, leaving out the 21-22 and 22-23 where he was more injured than fit.

In the end, a striker is measured at scoring.

Good that we have players to compensate this year with McNeil and Ndiaye.

That is certainly part of it, but arguing the mechanical process of goalscoring doesn’t need coaching isn’t correct.

But either way, it makes little difference because Dyche is on record as saying Everton has all the coaching expertise it needs.
It's not so much that I don't think coaching can help, it's that he's 27 and he's unlikely to improve much technically at this stage with or without coaching. I feel like the mental aspect has a much better chance of paying off.
