2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

….he’s had a fair few chances this season.
I never said he hasn't, I said it puts more pressure on him to score as he doesn't get as many as he should be getting if we played anything other than hoofball. I also said he's not the best slotter, so he does need chances to score.

He's offside a lot, if i was playing in front of our midfield who can barely pass 5 yards I'd be off, at least he's making runs, maybe finding him a bit quicker may help.

My main point is the role he is asked to play is a thankless task and when you're already not prolific, it will take its toll with the fans. he is much much better than how he looks currently being asked to jump and flick on to yourself ten times a game.

Like him or loathe him(not a nice word)

If I was him -playing the way we do, I'd not sign again. he might not be the bossest of slotters but by god the poor lad is not given a whole host of chances, which in turn put more pressure on him to score the few chances he does get.

He should score more but come on he spends 90% of the time chasing his own flick-ons and trying to bully two centre halves. He's unlucky that he's a perfect Dyche forward but not much good for his goals scored column.
He’s getting chances though- his xG is just under 4 for a return of 2 goals, continuing the trend from last season that he scores roughly half the goals he should. You can’t blame service for that, his finishing is not good enough.

For contrast, his xG number is very close to that of Mbuemo and Palmer who have 8 and 7 respectively. Being given the same chances, very different outcomes.

And vastly better players.

As poor as Calvert Lewin was against Fulham, we really can't drop him for Beto whilst playing 'Dyche Ball', the ball just doesn't stick to Beto and we would be under constant pressure. The only way Beto gets starts are either as part of a 2 with Calvert Lewin, or with Dyche changing his go to tactic of having Pickford or Tarkowski punt it long at the centre forward.

Now we've seen them play as a 2, it really didn't work and is Dyche changing the way we set up really a realistic option? I think we are stuck with Calvert Lewin until Broja and Chermiti are fit and we must hope one of them proves to be a better option.
Any traditional no 9 will suffer in our team when it's hoofed up to him marked by 2 defenders & the rest of the team 30 yards away - ref MOTD quote on how hard it was for DCL playing with tactics like that .... then when he scored about 2cm offside ....
Beto ok give him a run, any no 9 will suffer with a poor midfield that sits back under Dyches tactics ....

No coincidence we caused them more trouble when we went 4- 4 2....

When did he last actually bully a centre half?
I can in all honesty remember only the derby last season.
Centre halves get their easiest away of the season when they rock up at Goodison.
