2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

He never has - and never will - create a moment of magic to score a goal. Same can be said for scoring from outside the box, regularly slotting 1-on-1 attempts with the goalkeeper or scoring with his weaker foot.

When he does score, which is all the more unlikely in this system, it's scrappy, bundled efforts or headers only. There's nothing wrong with those goals - if you're scoring enough of them.

Broja has to be given an extended run in the team now because the manager has clearly failed miserably to get anything out of DCL or Beto.

Broja isn't exactly a proven goalscorer.

That can change
In this system....I dunno.

Broja is no more than a decent gap filler for this season but he isn't a long term solution to our goals issue imo. Id be slightly concerned if Thelwell thought he was tbh.
Agreed
I do like the lad , he offers a lot & hope he starts to find the net regularly.

But we do need an out & out finisher , it's the difference to being how we are atm and climbing the table.

West Ham last season when he turned and shot immediately springs to mind

We don’t create many great chances for him, but we do create the odd melee in the box, and our corners are decent if predictable. He’s never just “there” when the ball drops. Hard to teach that, and he’s never really had it. Or the will to get a shoulder in front of a defender when a cross is about to come in.

I really like Dom, and he does have a horrible job in this setup, but worse players than him are scoring more goals, and he doesn’t weigh in with assists either. Got to hope Chermiti comes in as sharp as he looked before the injury.
I see both sides, he got zero service at Arsenal and Beto in previous games hasn't got it either. Betos problem he isn't suited to playing with his back to goal, if he was playing when we had Baines, Pienaar, Deulofeu or Digne he'd score a lot more. We don't play to his strengths. DCL is different in that he isn't a natural striker.I saw him in a derby at GP, when we drew 0-0, and my view was perfect to see his positioning and he was never actually in positions to on the end of Richy or Coleman's crosses. He had a good spell under Carlo, but mostly he has been poor. Broja showed more in his two appearances than DCL has done throughout most games this season. He had 2 guilt edge chances at Villa that he should of scored.

Never got the impression he is playing like he can’t be arsed tbh. You can argue he’s poor or underperforming but he definitely still works hard. Think he’s lost a bit pace since his injuries
He’s been totally disinterested for several seasons. Beto is a bang average footballer at best but the difference he made when he came on purely by fighting for every ball and giving the centre halves something to think about was huge.

Be interesting to see where he goes and how he does. Playing as a forward in a Dyche team is a hard ask and DCL has really struggled for consistency over the last few seasons. Both these things can be true.

Technically he's nowhere good enough to play for a top team. Maybe he could do well for a Brighton in the same way Welbeck seems to have thrived there but he would have to play better than he has for us.

He's not technical for Brighton who have a front line of players who are ball carriers, dribblers, and good one on one.

As for Dom...at his best even under Carlo he was an all round centre forward - ran channels, bullied defenders, held the ball, brought players into play, great in the air.

At the moment he's spectacularly isolated. But then he's not technical enough to do something with the ball when he does get it. Instead of holding it, waiting for back up, laying it off and moving into the box...it's like a hot potato for him - he wants to try and take a defender on (loses it), runs into blind alleys (loses it), drops deep (loses it).

I don't think he'll have a long list of suitors. He's still of a premiership level.
