2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Not that bothered about impressing. I'll just take some points on the board through goals regardless how scrappy they are.
He has scored one prem goal - last season he missed a vital pen - we need a consistent goalscorer ATM we don't have one .... maybe give Beto a run, but DM has dropped his price to 10 million to get rid of him which he knows he not the finished article his hold up play is poor, but he is a nuisance to defences with his barging style our 3 number 9s one always injured , Broja & the other 2 are failing to score - a big problem ... DM has to sort it out ..... plus we miss Dwight MacNeil for his crossing & shooting ....

We played OK football last night, not much hoof ball - but created very little & when we did DCL missed - the one at the end was poor should have grabbed a point ....

We need a striker who can score ..... on a regular basis ....

I wonder about Calvert Lewin, I really do. The main strength of his game was always his aggression in the air, his timing, leap and bravery were impressive. That just isn't there any more, he always seems half hearted now. It's possible that he is subconsciously holding back after his horrendous cheekbone fracture, or...is he deliberately holding back because he doesn't want a big injury before his Bosman in the summer? Either way, he should not be a regular starter in a premier league team at the moment.

I'd let him go on a free or loan if need be. The absence of his wage to our finances is looking like it is more advantageous than his lack of goals.

I don't see that Beto or Chermitti when fit offer any less and potentially have more upside if they get regular game time. I also think that Moyes could get better team performance with the likes of Ndiaye acting as a roving forward if need be we he has more tactical acumen than the previous incumbents of the manager's seat.

Sorry to have to say it, but I think his time here is done. It's easy to find a 0 goals in 10 striker to replace him at a fraction of the price. Hell give me couple of grand a week and I'll do zilch for 90 minutes once a week.

I would honestly honestly give Beto a run
I'm getting to the point. I've been a defender of Dom, especially with the service, yet the missed chance statistic does undermine the argument, somewhat.

He needs to start scoring soon: I get his confidence is probably at rock-bottom, but the final chance yesterday is pretty undefendable.

When he's at his very very best he's a real threat in the air, but I'm not sure he's ever really showed a consistent ability in that regard. He's certainly never been anything like a Ferguson or Fellaini who you just assumed would win virtually every header. For me he's always just been a bit of workhorse type striker - a bit of pace, decent strength and aerial ability, will grab a few goals. For a little while it looked like he was going to bloom into something more than that, but in the main he's always been a bit like he is now (albeit when he was younger I would say he worked harder).

How many games in a run has Beto ever played for us? One or two? He needs a run of ten games

1 Goal. He's started 1 game.
You're like a broken record with that penalty lol
Your boy Dominic has contributed 0 points with his goals this season. Zero.
Shocking stat.

I don't think our striker issues are being solved by the players in the team right now. Need to buy/loan.

We need new strikers. Have done for 5 years.
But here is a fine line thing between strikers sitting around the bottom of the table with us. Lets look at Mateta at palace. No great shakes as a striker. 6 goals. Scored last night in the win at leicester. His goals directly putting points on the board. Just that alone is the difference between sitting on 16/17 points and 23/24 like palace are. Calvert lewin is our main starter up top. 17 of the 20 games this season. Points gained through his goals? None.
Beto has put 1 point on the board directly through his goals. The draw against Fulham. And he didnt even start that game.
Calvert lewin is a better player technically than Beto but his contribution to points on the board this season is virtually nil. There's that little difference last night when he put the ball 6 feet over the bar. The little difference of your striker nicks you a point.
He hasnt got it in him.

I`ve been very supportive of DCL Joey, but we`re at a point now, where we can`t just keep on playing him, in the hope that he finds his scoring boots again.

I have no idea if he wants to be here or not anymore, but he`s become completely ineffective as a striker for us.

That may change if he was to go to a better team, but it`s become vital that we get another striker in now and if that means selling him to raise some funds to put towards this, then so be it.

We can`t keep playing him - end of.

I think he will move on - but two good CF have to be found the other two one crocked the other looks cumbersome - did nothing coming on last night .... we may give him a run, but he can't lay a ball off etc - & he just barges his way into a defence without much joy TBH .... Broja needs sending back too ....

We need new faces.... end of .....

I've said similar before, but how we've ended up with Dom as our main man up front with zero credible back up or alternatives is a terrible reflection on the club.

The £1.5m striker who, for periods, looked like he could slot, but sadly isn't the answer.

He doesn't pick himself and if managers don't see enough in Beto or the likes of Broja isn't regularly available, then what can we do?

Just trying to think*, in the time DCL has been at the club, the only alternative reliable/high calibre forwards have been Lukaku and Richarlison. Some might argue Rooney, at a push. Anyway, the first two sold for big money and no genuine replacement of calibre brought in.

Time to address that.

*very welcome to correct me here.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out with DCL for the rest of the season. If he wants a good move away when his contract runs out then he's going to need to perform, or his options will be more limited. Under dyche he was used as a lone runner, it didn't matter who played upfront they all looked poor, as they were so isolated. I wonder if Moyes will use him a bit like Fellaini and try and play it in to him but get people around him. Or he could use his pace to try and counter teams, he did this a bit with Antonio. Moyes has never really made strikers shine either to be fair with his style of play. I think there are still attributes with DCL that can be beneficial to the team, but he's certainly had the enthusiasm worked out of him. It's whether Moyes can get it back, or if he just tries to get something for him so he can bring someone else in.
