2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

No I'm not in favour of replacing them, I'm not sure why you would assume that.

Good strikers are hard to come by.
You think that our recruitment staff are incapable of replacing a 5 goal a season striker who is a bottom 5 starting striker in the league. That's why I would assume you would be in favour of replacing them. It's a task (buying a better striker than DCL) that almost every other team in the league has accomplished.

You've even produced your own list above of the bums they've bought. It's a pretty easy assumption to make.

Very honestly, anytime I see someone do a "x goals in x appearances" I immediately think they must be purposely trying to hide something. Acting as if a 2 minute sub appearance is somehow the same as a 90 minute start is insane. It is SO easy these days to pull up the exact number of minutes played, that the only genuine reason I can think for this misleading(the kind word) stat pulls is manipulation of the data because otherwise it doesnt support their argument. If either Chermiti or Broja score 1(seeing neither has had more than 150 minutes on the pitch) they instantly become more prolific than DCL.

If you want to have a real discussion on it, use the real stats.

Beto in the PL the past 2 years: Goal every 384 minutes
DCL in the PL the past 2 years: Goal every 390 minutes
Cenk Tosun: Goal every 264 minutes
Theo Walcott: Goal every 450 minutes
Richarlison: Goal every 259 minutes

If you want to take a list of terrible players and say "look, hes better than some of those" I guess you can, but wont do you any favors. Being worse than Beto and Tosun is a hard argue. You are correct in that DCL is indeed better than Rondon and Sandro, so thats a plus.
“Use the real stats” and then proceeds to use all of richarlisons seasons but cherry picks 2 years of DCL 😂

DCL has a goal every 276 mins in PL for us. It’s 251mins in all comps.

That’s genuinely terrible mate.
It’s not though. It’s about 1 in 3. Which for a 1.5m outlay is pretty good. And most clubs other than the top 4/5 would snatch your hands off for a 1 in 3 striker.

We aren’t signing a Lukaku type, he is an outlier in terms of Pl striker for us. Never had one like him before or after.

Over a 250+ game period of time, a 1 in 3 record is rubbish and similar to Carlton Cole’s scoring ratio.

He’s just not very good mate. That’s why he still plays for Everton at 28.

Well I'm not sure he is a 5 goal striker. When he's got he tends to score between 7-16 goals. But yes from our track record they find difficulty finding such strikers, especially who can offer what he does in terms of his all round game.

That's basically the exact point I'm making. It's clearly not that easy. As 3 DOF have found.

If there is a team willing to pay some sort of fee for him now I’d take it. Rather that than he leaves for nothing in the summer. At his current goal scoring rate I’m confident we could cover his 2 goals he’ll be due to score in the remainder of the season.
Clubs are in for him so lets see - we will need a replacement though as Beto is also rumoured to be going .....

Sorry mate his wages now surpass that 1.5m outlay it’s no excuse what we paid for him, he’s a first choice premier league striker on 100k per week or there about that’s what he will be judged on. And 20 game runs without a goal is shocking on more than 1 occasion

Again this seems to avoid the elephant in the room that virtually every other PL team have found a better forward than DCL

What good does that bit even mean now. 2 goals and we're into 2025 is pathetic. Oh but he cost 1.5m 8 years ago so that makes everything ok lol.
We're hovering above the trap door because our supposed main goal getter is on 2 goals.
I mean im not that expectant of any player tbh, esp at this club, but 2 goals is taking the piss. That he cost 1.5m in 2016 is irrelevant now.

I don’t disagree. And the long periods without scoring is very poor. But for a striker signed for that amount, it’s a good return, regardless of wages since (which I’m glad we haven’t given him £130k if those reports are true).

To be fair, 1 in 3 is decent returns anyway, as improving on that to 1 in 2 means getting 18/19 every season and how many actually do that?

This season is very poor and far from good enough.
