You need to be comparing like for like. You’ve seen two of those “young strikers” recently playing against us , Solanke and Tammy Abraham . Both are the same age as DCL, both selected ahead of him for the England squad neither made any impression at all when they played against us , both are struggling to make an impression in the PL , understandably it’s a tough gig for a young striker. We are poor in our ability to play passes accurately from midfield and he’s living on scraps and his own knock downs. He’s not the best striker in the PL but he’s far from the worst. Try getting behind him for once and supporting him.

I doubt me writing some home truths on an Internet forum makes a blind bit of difference. I don't blame Lewin at all, he's giving everything he's got and his work rate is fantastic but we need better quality.

It was a thankless task, the lad found himself about a mile away from the closest midfielder at any given time today through no fault of his own. Shame to see the Pointless Criticism Machine warming up already.

His hold up play is excellent. He wins most things in the air. He grafts.

He isn't the most natural finisher and he's inexperienced... But it's not his fault he's a first choice striker. He's probably loving it but the reality is he should be learning from a top balls striker this year.

Instead, we didn't sign one, he's effectively replaced goal machine Lukaku and for that he's getting pelters.

The frustration comes from exactly what you've written. He's not ready for this yet. As I always state, I've no grievances with the lad because he's trying his best up there.

That’s not what you said . You said 19 other strikers could do a better job than him. Now I don’t believe that , but am happy to accept you know more about PL strikers than me. So to make it easy for you start at the bottom of the PL with Swansea and give the names of the striker in the bottom ten clubs who could do a better job playing up front for us with little decent service. Oh and his name is Calvert-Lewin. I’ll await your list with interest, I’m always willing to learn.

If we had Deeney, Carroll, Benteke, Austin, Diouf or Defoe it wouldn't make the team any worse. In fact, it would probably improve the team.

If we are happy to be a scrappy bottom half prem team then DCL/sandro/niasse will be fine, if we want to win things we need two new strikers.

Fine some say he is not a striker, but what chances has he had? For me I am not convinced that he can score consistently even if he had chances.

So difficult being isolated on your own against Chelsea and yes his work rate is without question.

However we must have more quality upfront if we are to progress. Remember Lukaku was the same age when he first came to us.

DCL is young and will improve but he won't have us pushing for a Champions League place in the short term.

The quality of our front line with the money we have spent beggars belief.

Think it's all obvious to see that we need better than DCL. He is not ready yet and if we are to progress then we need better and start introducing DCL from the bench slowly slowly. He will get there I think but doesn't do much for me except hold the ball up then give it back to the opposition mostly. He is not much of a threat.
