Duncan Ferguson - The Coach

I;d have preferred this club to have acted professionally and had a successor lined up as soon as Silva was sacked.
I think we were in such a downward spiral Silva had to go
My concern was we went and got a Moyes type stop gap manager
In Ferguson we have got somebody who has given us belief and instilled some passion and fight into the team and supporters
Do I want him as our manager... not yet
He still has a fair amount to learn and maybe Ancelotti can help him
I will say it’s been a great ride and hopefully it can continue Saturday

He needs to get out and prove himself. He's chosen, though, to remain as assistant. THAT tells me he's not mentally up to taking on the number one job.

If honest I wouldn’t disagree
Maybe with Ancelotti he will develop
If he doubted his ability’s, I think he was wrong to do so
I guess the question would be could he keep this passionate style of football going

I love you Dave but I'm disregarding anything you or anyone else says about Duncan's interim role as manager.

I'm actually happy and positive about Everton again. Looking back its like I've been clinically depressed by Everton in a football sense since the last season of Martinez.

It feels like Everton again to me. The supporters have lost their apathy, the team has fight and spirit.

I admit I'm biased, Duncan has always been my hero but I was willing to criticise him if needed. He's got results with a threadbare squad, conducted himself with elequence and dignity at all times and held the club together when it was completely fragmented.

I know your feelings about him as a player but he is dedicated and loves the club.

He's had the Duncan effect on the club and fans just like he did as a player. I love him, everyone loves him. Listen to how his name is sung, it rings out.

I love you Big Dunc, I'll never wear a jacket again.

I cannot be anything other than impressed and proud with how Duncan has performed. We have beaten a top 4 team at home, drew with one in very good form (beating the champions in the previous match) away and now drew with a title contender at home allbeit in the league cup and losing on penalties. I dare say Ancelotti would have not performed as well. In fact I'm certain he couldn't have galvanised the team in the same way Duncan has that has resurrected the club and optimism around it.

I'm ambivalent about Ancelotti taking over. However if the decision is made then I will support it. I think that Duncan should continue as the manager. I will not hold that against Ancelotti though or give him any less support because of it.

Not at all, he's proving it NOW against top class opposition. I reckon Everton would have won against Leicester C if there was extra time as they were looking strong towards the end. All what Rodgers could was to run the clock down with substitutions.

Yeah, support - not nonsensical hero worship of somene who doesn't deserve it.

What makes a good football manager though? This time last year mostly everyone would have said that Mauricio Pochettino was a good/great manager. Look what happened to him. If Arteta gets Arsenal into the top four come the end of the season will he be considered a good manager? What's Arteta done to date in terms of club management that Ferguson hasn't? Why does Arteta deserve an EPL manager job at this stage?

I'm positive too. If we get Ancelotti in and we mean business in terms of backing his judgement. It;s where we should have been after Mohiri took over 4 years ago.
Time has been wasted.

Ferguson: he's made a difference due to a bounce and the fact that we are not trying to be expansive. But you cant carry on like that, and some people (including Ferguson himself) wanted him as a long term manager. That would have been a disaster, and that's been at the heart of my criticism of him. As said: if he sees himself as a manager of Everton, let him go out and prove himself. Looks like he wants to just sit and wait other people out though. That's not the type of man we need for a great club like this.

Absolutely agree about Ancelotti 100%.

But the waiting people out accusation is just more cone laying baseless character assassination.

He says he is still learning and he is hoping to learn from one of the very best now. I don't think he's ever tried to assert himself as in line to the throne, in fact after the Chelsea game he was the only one humbly stating he was just doing what he was asked and what was needed before he could step aside for the manager the club needed.

I agree if he ever wants to have the hot seat for real he will probably need to go and get his spurs somewhere first and prove himself but I'm sure he knows that too.

He will need to do that, but he wont.

Everton FC is his security blanket and cash machine for life.

I just hate the way these people take the utter piss.

Let him get off to Hull/Huddersfield/Charlton/Wigan etc and get a club promoted or at least in the play offs and show they can actually run a club long term...and take their cling-on entourage with them so they can prove their worth too.

What is your reasoning for this conclusion? That 'we are not trying to be expansive'? It certainly isn't indicated from the performances of the players. We came back from 2 down to draw with Leicester when we were chasing the game and they were trying to shut up shop. That performance alone suggests it cannot be that straightforward to say we are not trying to be expansive because we were... and came back anyway against a team that is 2nd in the league and has only lost twice this season (Man Utd away and Liverpool away).

It does seem likely that the results cannot remain this good simply because the team over any other period of the 16 games played has not been able to replicate this current form (even when playing against newly promoted teams), yet you underestimate Ferguson and you are wrong to do so. The players have been exceptional and have grown in confidence under his leadership. We could just as likely beat Arsenal despite the team not fully recovering from Wednesday because the players will give everything and the fans should back them to the hilt.
