England took Conor Coady to the Euros. On the wings Grealish and Sancho couldn't get in the team and your boy Lingard didn't make it. I'd say the depth is just a bit different.

If the plan with these wingers isn't to play 4-4-2 and get the ball into the box I'm not really sure what it is. I don't like that plan that much either but that one makes sense given who we have and these signings. Playing 4-2-3-1 or something that is a passing system imo is not what these players are suited to. McNeil and Townsend bomb tons of crosses and Gray tends to play that way as well although he'll shoot some too. They aren't half space players. They aren't goal scorers. So if you aren't going to have a second forward in the team I just don't see what the plan is.

Wingers who like to have the ball means less time passing it sideways and backwards.
Also the service to DCL was shocking for the last half of the season, hopefully we are looking to rectify this.

Just for the record Southgate invited him to train with England team 2 years ago before his breakout season.

He clearly is on the radar and will get an England cap soon.
