Destroyed TAA at Anfield last season
Cheers that’s what I’m looking for , I honestly don’t recall but that’s more on me than McNeill’s performances which is why I asked .

slight caveat being he was pretty poor for a lot of the season and out of position a fair bit .

No he wouldn’t but we’re not a big 6 team and in fact are fighting for top half.

If you're spending £30m on a player, it should be one who can meet your aspirations.

If McNeil can't get in a top six side, he shouldn't be bought for a side who wants to get into that top six.

But that said, you are right in that we're bringing in Andros Townsend, so "aspiration" isn't a term you can attach to Everton currently. "Incompetent" certain is however.

No we’ve definitely given up on that whole catching the top 4/6 thing for the immediate future. We’re an absolute financial mess. Security is the objective.

Townsend I can live with - free transfer who has worked with Benitez, has admitted he has been brought in as a squad player and (if you go down this route) was statistically the best crosser in the league last season, so there's plenty of reasons he makes sense, given we know he isn't being brought in as a starter.

McNeil for £30m or whatever is a whole other kettle of fish as you're talking about a starter here. Not convinced he's what we need nor worth the money it will take.

Why bother signing anyone then. This squad gets you around 12th as it is, may as well just roll with it.

I literally just said baby steps.

You buy better than what you have, to move up, just because he might not start for a Spurs or Leicester doesn't mean he can't help us get to the next step. We've finished 10th and 12th the last two season so we're not even close to the Top 6 aspirations.

Demarai Gray as a £2m squad player punt is a baby step.

£30m isn't a baby step.
