2024/25 Dwight McNeil

I think he's basically a very good championship player. His decision making at PL level is too slow and indecisive. He's got a good shot but hardly ever gets in a position to hit it because of his poor footwork.

His left foot is good, yet in his inability (or his decision not) to use his right foot is nauseating, because it impacts on and limits his wider game.

Most players have a preferred foot, but he ends up playing the way he is facing and running into channels, as he can't come across his body and inside.

My son is only young yet plays football to a pretty high standard, and they are insistent on making sure your weaker foot is still used to control and pass the ball.

It's so frustrating that he won't because in so many situations a touch on his right foot would help him set up for the use of his left foot for a pass or a shot.

I agree, but also we don't play quick enough or with enough intelligence to provide the space for him to have space to do so either.

tbf he's nowhere near pro active enough to find pockets of space when he should. He's always on the back foot, never on the front foot and the amount of times he's slow to react (when he looks up in the air and thinks wtf, then attempts to get back in position and starts trotting like a little 8 year old) as seen in the 4th goal for Spurs, is ridiculous.

I wouldn't be surprised if he plays tonight and has a decent game due to the level of opposition. But, barring injuries he shouldn't be anywhere near the first team and he's a massive issue of why we are so bad in the final 3rd.

….he’s often too ‘safe’, preferring to work and pass back rather than spin when in possession. It really shows what a little magician Leon Osman was, a master of transitioning defence into attack.

Depends what you mean by that. If you mean without the ball finding pockets of space, I agree, but with the ball I disagree. He has decent dribbling and close control and if you look at goals he's scored for us, quite a few have come from him dribbling into a space that has been created.

I agree he shouldn't be a starter but until we get another LW I can't see an alternative (under this manager) aside from Harrison who also has glaring issues.

How about changing formations

But that would mean the manager asking chatgtp for ideas
