ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

I can see this weekend being the one they take control of this title race. Chelsea lose 3 points, City drop 2; Spurs face a difficult trip to Palace.

They'll get daylight between themselves and the others and they have home crowd advantage in the coming weeks when none of their rivals will have it if London end up in Tier 3.

If that happens, we can only hope Salah or Mane or both get crocked.

Wasn't you all for Chelsea and Spurs just a few days ago when I said the title is theirs and they'll end up pulling away

I made the mistake of looking at that Gerrard documentary on prime yesterday - just wondering whether it mentioned his Everton supporting childhood and to have a good chuckle (it didn't...airbrushed, as I expected).

I was howling though at Gerrard's mumbled monologue at the start where he says - to the backdrop of scenes from Liverpool life - "I knew early on that I would play professional football; but most of all I wanted to play football for my people".

You're from Whiston you 'kin box headed freak. "My People".

Hilarious.
Can't remember where, most likely a random a facebook clip,
But he's on camera talking about when he started supporting them,
Apparently it was a derby, we scored first and he says I think I'll support these, only to changed his mind when the RS turned it round...
Typical gloryhunter rs

It is a strange award. It usually does focus on someone who has won something, so they should probably rename it something like 'Sporting achievement of the year'.

The title indicates someone in the sporting world whose character and actions are notable. Which Rashford definitely ticks. But so would Mickley Quinn or Gazza. Maybe not for the best reasons lol.
This discussion happens every year and every year it “triggers” me.

Words often mean more than on thing. Personality means more than one thing.

Just because it means “ the combination of characteristics or qualities that form an individual's distinctive character” doesn’t mean it can’t also mean “ a celebrity or famous person” and that the second meaning is intended in this instance.

Of all the things that people away and do, this annual misunderstanding of the word personality in SPOTY winds me up way more than it ought to.

It's not really a sporting award though is it, as it's about personality as much as anything.

I mean even if it was a Sporting Award, I'm struggling to see how Henderson merits it.
It’s intent is to recognise sporting achievement, there is no argument about that.

Often that is swayed by how much a sports person has been in the limelight, which is sometimes personality driven, sometimes popularity driven, or in the case of when the queens niece, or whatever Zara Phillips is, how famous your family is.

It’s still essentially first and foremost intended to represent sporting achievement.

Recognising rashford for the incredible things he’s done this year is far better served through a separate award, and also gives a future platform for recognition of others deserving it in the future.

For me Hamilton should win it. I’m not a huge F1 follower but he’s equalled the very best the sport has produced and that is hard to overlook.

Hello mate, your response makes no sense.

Thanks for the contribution.

I don't understand why you're explaining the duality of meaning inherent in words in response to my post. It makes no sense.
Your post was simply the one I pressed reply to, it could’ve been any number of posts immediately before or after, and it would’ve been more appropriate in direct reply to others than it was to yours, but yours happened to be the one I pressed reply to.

I’m simply saying it irritates me that people have the same conversation every year about sports PERSONALITY of the year, based on the wrong definition of personality, seeming to be ignorant of the other definition for which it should refer.

I’m not aiming that at you, I’m aiming it at the entire universe.

As I said, it triggers me.

There’s a good chance of a killing spree this afternoon now.

I've got a gun you can hire, if interested? ;)
