ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

The Athletic's Kopite chimp Simon Hughes struggling today to justify matters:

On Henderson...

"It is widely thought within Saudi that the club is poised for an imminent acquisition by the petrochemical giant SABIC (Saudi Arabia Basic Industry Corp). In any future argument about his decisions, perhaps Henderson will try to point towards SABIC creating employment in his native north east of England. In 2007, the company bought the Huntsman chemical factory in Teesside. Within its sphere of interest, SABIC has a reputation for competence and innovation."

On Gerrard....

"There has been less focus on him moving to Saudi Arabia than Henderson because he has never positioned himself as pillar of social values. He would not have taken on the role with Al Ettifaq without the money but the job gives him the chance to step away from the spotlight and reset his managerial philosophy."

How 'kin desperate is that to attempt a rehabilitation.

Utterly shameful.

Liverpool FC like Newcastle are at the heart of a sports washing operation. Just acknowledge it and stop trying to deflect. The whole world sees what's happening.
I don't know which bit made me laugh more at his desperation, the "perhaps Henderson will try" bit or the last line "SABIC has a reputation for competence and innovation" like that's got anything at all to do with the drivel he's portraying.

Lol. That is absolutely desperate stuff

Paying over the odds for a player makes that money clean. Ergo, if the payment was to be made with illicit money, going through a legal channel with almost no oversight makes it money laundering, no?

No, the money needs to be dirty in the first place....its not. They are financed by the sale of oil, thats not illegal.

Its as clean as you will ever get.

But lets go with saying its "dirty" money.....how are they getting clean money on the other side ?? Where is the profit ??

They are making losses to build up their sport, they are not making any money on paying these fee's and wages.

There's a part in that article where Hughes says that Gerrard is joined by coaches Tommy Culshaw and Ian Foster his mates from the Bluebell Estate in Huyton...trying to make it sound like it's a decent feller working a few quid to his mates by working a few months wages to them on a building site in Saudi.

Hughes is absolutely rank. He's the bellend who came up with the Bramley Moore crap for that rag last summer. An utter scumbag who will launder Liverpool FC's dirty washing all day but has a go at Everton for inhabiting a place that was named after John Bramley Moore a century and a half ago.

He is filth.

This is laughable.

“He’s gone there to support the drive in the economy of the North East, rather than the drive in the economy of his own wallet”.

I’m not even gonna really criticise Henderson. Until I’m offered £700k per week, I’m not gonna get pious about it. But call it how it is, no-one’s falling for this nonsense surely.

The laughable thing was that Hughes was claiming that SABIC which has invested cash into the north east is Al Ettifaq's owners...and therefore they and Henderson should be cut some slack when he knows they are not their owners and have just been rumoured to be taking them over.

THAT is how morally bankrupt Hughes is. He's deconstructing facts and presenting them as truths. A bankrupt 'journalist'.

With all respect lads, we used to slag Chelski and then we got oligarc cash and silence. If we got arab money and competed again it would be the same. The Saudi's know that as long as the price is right, the UK and States will eat out of their hands

What is actually wrong with these people, what is this tripe 😂 😂

The difference is we wouldn't have a battalion of cultists trying to portray it as something admirable.

The difference is we wouldn't have a battalion of cultists trying to portray it as something admirable.

The difference also that we haven't spent years trying to position ourselves as morally superior to all other teams, and the last bastion of fair play, no money and jumpers for goalposts. We haven't spent the last decade trying to pretend that City's achievements count for nothing, and 'hilariously' referring to them as Abu Dhabi FC at every juncture. Anyone claiming we would be just as hypocritical as them is either a red or else hasn't been paying attention...

It's all completely irrelevant anyway. I know nothing about SABIC but from the article extract:

  • A company has built some factories/industry in NE already
  • Football player throws away previous pretence of moral leadership to take the big payday in same country as that company
  • That company may or may not buy the football club
  • Even if they do (or don't) the fact of Henderson moving to that country is utterly irrelevant to the past decisions of that company (and indeed any future ones in reality)
They are really searching if this is the best excuse they can come up with.
