ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC" part 3

Reckon city will win it in a canter.

They haven’t even kicked in yet and he’s been experimenting.

It’s hilarious that we have a close title race between:

A club with unlimited resources that have compiled a squad of world class players in every position containing Rodri De Bruyne Haaland all managed by the best manager of all time

A club that hasn’t spent any money, has a midfield containing Curtis Jones Harvey Elliot and Wataru Endo, has one reliable forward, and has a collection of fullbacks that can’t defend. They’re not managed by the best manager of all time.

Statistically these two shouldn’t be anywhere near each other every season yet we have engineered title races between the two because one team gets airlifted in every single game they don’t play well in.

They don't need Salah when they've got corrupt officials giving them every decision under the sun.
They've had that every year in the PL = 1 title.

This is effectively a 2 point race between a bang average Liverpool team who'll draw their way out of title bid as per usual and City who'll pile up the next 10 games and collect 30 points.

The ref gives it and then VAR gives it, it’s an absolute fix.
its a pointless additional process if it offers no depth of scrutiny. They are feared of putting their mates in a bad light by evidencing that they have made a wrong call. There needs to be a removal of any blaming when a ref makes a wrong call, they are humans acting in a fast dynamic environment with multiple demands on their attention. it would be incredibly unusual if they didnt make mistakes. Cricket manages brilliantly when the video umpire corrects a bad call on field, the on field umpire shrugs their shoulders then gets on with it.
If football VAR doesnt add a layer of scrutiny, it is pointless and facile. Unless there is an ulterior motive of course.

Last night was a particular outrage, but we know that they get decisions for them. It's how they;ve remained relevant as a club since the 90s.

But Liverpool won't slip up playing high profile fixtures like last night: Liverpool will slip up the way they always slip up: encountering 'smaller' teams who'll dig in and give them no space to exploit in the way United did at Anfield a few weeks back. Any PL team can do that and get a result...even against a vastly better team and more inventive one like City.

They have 6 draws right now - they''ll pile up another loss and probably 4 more draws. That just takes a City team with the bit between its teeth to stretch away to a comfortable title defence. They;re only effectively 2 points from Liverpool now.

People getting terrified about a very average Liverpool team with one word class player in it - who's out for the next month anyway - are maybe jumping the gun a bit.

Good points there

Agree totally. They've installed VAR as a device to suggest a layer of scrutiny and then immediately devised the 'clear and obvious' concept for changing decisions which allows them the wriggle-room to adjust decisions to suit their narrative / product.

The technology isn't the issue really.

Other leagues Ilve watched have no such controversy. If it's a clear mistake its overturned. If not a ref's decision is left alone. It's easy to understand and acceptable.

In the PL however, they've chosen to weaponise it: using it to tweak results to "enhance the product" by creating controversy and close title races.

The business model of the PL is to blame. PGMOL are a creature of this league and get their gig *knowing* what their masters expect of them.

The best PL team of all time, current world and European champions, managed by Pep Guardiola can’t afford to have an off day in the premier league or they drop points, every time. In fact they even drop points when playing well as seen v Liverpool Spurs and Palace.

The most unrelenting competition in the world doesn’t allow a single team to get 3 points consistently if they’re not at their best. Villa, Arsenal, Spurs all excellent teams with excellent players who have been punished when not at their best.

Then there’s one team with more average performances than good ones this season who more often than not get 3 points when they’re not playing well defying the competition that seems to affect all other 19 teams. How truly bizarre. Or just corrupt.

City are winning the league, no ifs or buts about it, they are just pacing themselves, they will be delighted they are only 5 points behind with a game in hand at this stage. They won’t drop points from March to May just watch.

No one is winning the league but City, just a matter of time.

I’d personally disagree with that mate the PL isn’t that competitive at all, if you look at other leagues there is the same odd shock. Or one Bolter of a team who has an unexpected good season, before the CL clubs come in and sign their players and they go back into the pack.

The PL is loosing its lustre in terms of competitive sport bar following your own team. You can pick the clubs who will be in the CL already. We know City are winning the title.

Beyond Everton - who really cares anymore.
