ECHO Comment: "Fears of Witch-hunt Against Liverpool FC"

Liverpool decided to pull out if the following seasons uefa cup. No more, no less.

What does the Echos apology have to do with anything?

The frankly pathetic plaque on the wall is a joke and had they not drawn Juve then they wouldn't have apologised at all

This. They made it into an event in itself as a bit of a "good bit of PR". They did it in a way that the rest of europe knew they were apologising, a long time after the event itself. It wasn't an apology to Juventus directly where Juve went to the media and told everyone that LFC had apologised for the actions. It was all really crass imo.

The argument isn't that the club handled the fallout of Heysel well, it's clear they handled it poorly... the arguement is that their handling of the disaster doesn't give everyone else free reign to blanket label their fans as murderers.

I see that they have now said that their plan is to win every game between now and the end of the season. How is that any different from the plan of every other team in the top half of the table.......

Definitely a cunning plan that. I'm surprised they are not being headhunter for corporate strategy firms with such incite.

Looks like Jurgen has patched things up with Ann Field after a particularly rocky few weeks. Apparently he promised her that he wouldn't play away anymore.. and he's been good to his word (definitely NOT been playing away from home of late!) ....but he's been a bit disinterested on the home front too. In fact, after he had a few friends round (from South Wales, Hampshire and Yam Yam country) he was a little bit too hospitable and made a bit of a fool of himself..especially when he was banging on about the lousy weather. Anyway they're busy trying to patch things up this Valentine's Day after a nice weekend tryst.

Dead accepting of what they did those tricky reds aren't they.

The reality is them denying us the champions league in 1986 is their greatest achievement in their heads. Such is the bitterness and inferiority they feel, they would celebrate an action that prevented us rather than one that helped them.

Oh and as for top 6 they finished 8th last season (under the best manager in the world). We are currently 7th which is considered best of the rest. Enjoy the Orwellian logic of a Joliet there.

Ive met my share of juve fans, they appreciate that we are one of the few fan bases that see the rs for what they are

Juventus fans know what they are. They themselves have held murderous banners up too. No doubt to the rats the loved standing up for themselves is worse than those who committed the atrocity.

I am in solidarity with the Juventus fans fighting for justice.

Yawn, I've posted on the forum virtually every day for a while now. I'm particularly triggered by Heysel as I know people who went and were deeply affected by it. Thanks for avoiding any point I may have made in my structured post and flinging mud like a chimp instead.
I'm not gonna labour the point but we both know what you are... let's not pretend. Anyway I'm not prepared to continue this with you as it must be boring for others to read.

I remember when Everton went up to Leeds recently and sang "Yorkshire police, murderers" for 90 minutes.

Looked to see the reaction after the game and it was universal praise and talk of "brotherhood" etc. They absolutely loved that.

Same logic really. Seems it's only point scoring when it suits them.

Does anyone have the pictures of the memorial services held in Italy and at Anfield a year or two back? The contrast was laughable. Not one single f given at Anfield.

Meanwhile I've noticed it seems this topic is irresistible to "undercover" reds such as to wade in and further out themselves, so I'm all for it.

@longers @GerryandthePaceMerchants

Are we allowed to chant the Derbyshire Police are 'murderers' even though they blatantly aren't? A tiny minority 2 decades ago were complicit.

How about calling Spurs fans 'yids'? A tiny minority will be Jewish but they are labelled Yids, which is again a derogatory term.

It's a different thought process being a football fan, all respect for other people, groups and minorities seems to go out of the window. Whether it's right or wrong, it's just the way it is.

If that's your reality based on interactions with Reds then I don't know where you live or who you speak to because it differs completely from mine, and I suspect if people are honest, most on here.

Disagree about the point scoring, I think its 100% about that. Losing in a derby? Sing Murderers. RS player is fouled? Sing always the victim etc etc but I accept that no-one who has an opinion will ever change it online.

I don't remember any Evertonian singing always the victim.

The murderers chant in the abstract is ridiculous. The problem is football doesn't exist in the same world. Much like swearing.

The two issues I have are thus. One Liverpool regularly gloat and swear towards Everton about not winning the European cup. This was denied of Evertons greatest teams and likewise so too was our chance at defending the cup
Winners cup. If we are talking about humility around the disaster does singing those songs, Steau Bucharest shirts, scarves and banners that are on display in the Liverpool end should surely be treated as equivalent to singing murderers?

The second point for me is I fundamentally don't think most Liverpool fans have really learned. If you look at the antics over the years in Europe, Munich chants, fans in opposing ends fighting with locals, attacking Sevilla fans while a few hours earlier getting plastered and goading Everton fans they'd never experience it (we won't as such violence would rightly be condemned), talking about bricking pubs that host rival football fans and being in scouse for not doing so etc etc. The list could go on. It's what made Platini describe the supporters as the worst in the world. A group of fans who bring shame on our city.

A lot of it dates back to Heysel for me. When did it become acceptable to frame it as "The Italians and busies had no bottle". Why would they need bottle? If people behaved as they ought?

I don't think singing murderers is massively clever or productive but neither are the attempts to shut down the debate by Liverpool fans and tarnish anyone who dares to question the impact as morally bankrupt. The debate ought to be had and most Juventus fans I've spoken to view LFC fans as murderers.

If the club were serious about showing contrition rather than mocking teams affected surely they could go some way to repair the damage? 4 English clubs per season were denied entry into European football as a result of the "bottle" of the Kopite squads of Europe. That comes to 20
Years lost. Surely the decent thing to do would be to say over the next 2 decades they will withdraw from any European competition and allow the next English team to have it instead? It will by no means erase the damage they have done, but it would be a classy gesture that some degree of ownership and acknowledgement was being taken to address the wrongs.

However such an act would require class and dignity. It will mean it will never happen.
