Davek , its along time since i,ve been here, but i have to say its the greatest thread ever since.

The the history of GOT..

Well Coutinho has just batted his eyelids and lifted his skirt in the direction of Barca.

There's the summer transfer kitty for Klopp from FSG then @davek

Their pet media sources have already after 3-4 months banging on about Brandt being the priority number 1 signing come out the last week with 'Klopp changed his mind' and now insist that Salah from Roma is and they've dropped their interest in Brandt.

Expect a similar line over the next few weeks about various of their so called top targets - including VVD being changed to Keane and then to some player from the Bundesliga for about 10m

They've already missed out on 2 targets that where 'priorities' as they've signed for other clubs in agreements.

Their owners are bricking it about getting CL, as it will immediately remove the excuse about quality of player they can attract being churned out, so are starting to plant the seeds to temper expectations

I read all that and thought you were talking about Everton. Lol. It sounds like this club to a tee.

Liverpool: if they have any sense they'll use next season's offering of CL football to hang onto the best they have and add a few very decent, though non-world beating, players to their ranks and consolidate their squad for a PL top four again next season. It's a terribly weak squad right now and they need to use this summer as a means to bring up the overall decent quality, not bring in superstars to have a go at the CL.

The entire model of the owners though isn't that mate, it's to buy 'emerging' talent at cheap prices and sell them at the peak of their value - Coutinho right now is at his peak value, they will sell him.

Do you really think klopp will not throw absolutely everything at the Cl to the detriment of their league form? Europa last season and his time at Dortmund would suggest that when he's in Europe he prioritises it more than anything else

Too true. Although I expect the premature CL Champions celebrations to begin as soon as they are confirmed as in.

I actually think Klopp has his head screwed on. He sees the PL as the target. Rightfully so. If he gets them through the CL group stages, job done. I believe he is about building something solid at that club. He'll be patient in building up the squad. Best policy is to get CL football season after season.

As for their model: it's a fable. They immediately abandoned it as soon as they took control and gave Rodgers an arm and a leg to spend. There's no coherent practice going on there. They want a team in the CL consistently and then they'll sell up.

I suspect the rigours of the CL games and the Premiership will be the acid test for his players given how his training regime/style supposedly caused their dip this term. Depends who he gets in I guess... though as mentioned here, FSG have 'buy young to bring on' rather than 'proven' in their targets. His squad needs more than just potential to make next season's double assault feasible.

Maybe, maybe not, the idea of them selling is something the pr team rolls out to saps like the echo to placate tge fans now and again.

Its a nice commodity they can use to leverage in the future against other loans for other businesses.

I see Klopp's peers didn't think he warranted being in the top 30% of managers in this league, rightfully so IMO.

That won't go down well on RAWK nor on here were many blues have been over cooking this year performance by him.

Klopps performance this season has been well outside of the top 6 managers in this country. He is bang average and deep down most of the rats know that.

Not really. 44 points suggests that they have a great squad but they have been unlucky with injuries.

They don't have a great squad. Outside the first XI and maybe two subs the quality beyond that is shocking. Lucas and a load of academy players are the back up. Injuries are part and parcel of football and that's when the squad is tested. First half of the season they had very few injuries which is why they were top. They are limping over the line because of the drop in quality beyond the first XI. Had Lucas played yesterday rather than Coutinho moving back into midfield they would have struggled to create anything again.

They are sitting third yet you think his performance is not among the top six. You must think they are underachieving with the squad they have then.

Overall I think he's done a decent job if they get CL. Having said that picking Lucas when it was obvious the damage he was doing to their performances raises question marks. The fast one touch attacking football that got them top wasn't the same after injuries to key players, but he compounded that by selecting Lucas...a slow, bang average midfielder who takes umpteen touches on the ball before making a five yard pass. Lucas slows everything down and is the very opposite of Klopp's style of play ("heavy metal football" apparently) yet he picked him over the last month. 2 pts fom their last 3 home games (Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Southampton). It shows a flaw in judgement.

It means that as the season unfolds and unwinds you need a large strong squad of players to sustain a campaign when injuries, suspensions and the ACN kicks in and takes key players from you.

The threadbare nature of the squad meant they dropped off dramatically.
