Heads falling off over this recall. Lampard has said it is to give us more options from the bench.

For context:

Gyokeres 24 games played, 12 goals and 1 Assist

Brereton Diaz 25 games played, 9 goals and 3 Assists

Simms 17 games played, 7 goals and 2 Assist

Recalling him makes sense so he can replace Rondon in the squad. In hindsight he shouldn't have been sent on loan.

We still need more signings in the attacking positions though and maybe having Simms back allows us to focus whatever funds we have on players to come into the starting line up.
People reading a lot into his recall but for me it really is as simple as releasing Rondon (which we all agree with) and replacing him in the squad with a young player from our own ranks who has been scoring goals at the levels he’s played at. Yes, there needs to be much more done but the window’s not even opened yet. In isolation the business we have done, ditching Rondon and recalling Simms to take his place, is the right thing to do.

He (and cannon) give us the option to hold the ball up in the opposite half for longer, that will allow our midfield to play further up and be more dangerous, even if Simms and/or Cannon don't offer many goals themselves, the team will function better with them occupying defenders more.

Having seen all 3 play this season, Simms has nowhere near the talent of the other two, especially Diaz.

His hold up play isn't the best, for all he's a big lad.

I havent seen much of all 3 to be honest. But Simms cost us nothing whereas the others would demand fees and theres not a huge gap between all 3 in returns for this season.

As i said earlier Simms should be seen as a Rondon replacement. We still need more attacking options.

Exactly, we may still get another forward, but Simms will fill one slot. We are probably waiting for sales before we can purchase and I doubt it will be more than one player.

Hope he’s not coming back just to sit on the bench, and I will be doing my very best to get behind him when he plays.

It made no sense to loan him and dobbin out whilst we have dcl made of glass and only Rondon and Maupay - they should have had minutes here whilst those lads have been doing nothing for us.

Hope we can give him a chance and don’t get on his case if he misses a chance or two, but I fear the dars will do their usual thing and cripple him.

Everton fans a few weeks ago.... we need Simms back, why did we let him go..... Everton fans now.... cant belive were getting Simms back

Hi mate, like a couple of other posters have said Simms isn't a target man and he is pretty average at holding the ball up, you look at his height and would think that would be his game but it's not. He comes alive with the ball at his feet around the box and his a real eye for goal.

I'm pretty gutted as he had just really settled into the team and I think is getting better with every game, I just hope he plays as if he doesn't it's a bit of a waste for all parties.

Anyway good luck for the rest of the season.
