ESSG

I believe one of the surveys mentioned was GOTs own end of season fan survey. Sometimes you just can't see the wood for the trees.

Apparently there was also an ESSG survey circulated by the club about the future of football, with results from this and another independent survey fed into the consultation process too..... perhaps dredging obsessives weren't invited, or you may have even contributed to this process without realising?

I asked @GrandOldTeam on Twitter and he confirmed they're not involved in this.

Or at least I think he meant to say they're not involved, but missed out the 'not' from the tweet. lol

All this sounds fine and hope it comes to pass but, from just a quick scan of other Everton fora, it does seem to have bypassed these. Missing out a huge number of fans seems like a surefire way to divide the fanbase even more. It does feel 'stealthy' and therefore is bound to be treated as 'suspicious' by a significant number of fans. Seems like a big strategic error to make right at the start!

Haha

I've no idea if they were actively "involved" or not.... but I believe the results of their survey formed part of the initial process of measuring fan opinion in some way. Presumably about how well the club was being run etc.

A 'fan' director might work at a football league / non-league level but unless 'all fans' get a say in the decision then it just doesn't work.

It's like the hand picked fans forum, they don't represent my thoughts or the thoughts of many.

I think the only way a fan director can work really is if they are a representative of a 'fans trust' which has a shareholding and fans can become members of the trust. Members of the trust vote on issues and the 'fan director' who's the representative of the trust then actions the result of the vote by the trustees.

Imagine a fan director at Everton man!

**shouts across directors box**

"BILL...BILL GET HIM OUT BILL"

lol

Again, I'm not directly involved in ESSG, so cannot really say the reasons for not including forums in their main survey to date. I can only assume that they thought it better to go directly to season ticket holders at this stage as opposed forums made of people writing under pseudonyms. It appears that they looked at the readily available GOT survey for an initial gauge of opinion, so they could perhaps say that this represents a forum involvement.... but they then focused on identifiable stakeholders for their own more detailed survey. They looked at the results of these, their workshops and research of what is happening elsewhere to try to formulate a loose initial general proposal only. If people are not happy with the proposals they can now contact the group.... and the on-going process will be about further engagement and electing people to fill the roles, which will be entirely transparent and independently controlled. Is the process perfect or flawless? Probably not, but what process is?

I think you need a selection process to decide who is involved with the selection process.

Its pretty obvious to me that some people are using this as an opportunity to get a big hat rather than represent the real fan.

" best qualified" please define that for me.
Ultimately the selection process will be entirely democratic, so we will all have our say.... of course there will be selection criteria for candidates in these key roles as there would be for any role in business or industry. The members of the Advisory Board will have to be representative of the broad spectrum of the fanbase and all sections of our community, with the experience and skills required to support and advise the Fan Director(s), who in turn may have to be experienced in engaging in business and decision-making processes at board level. These are just standard best practice processes..... I don't think those key criteria have been decided in any detail yet, but I'm assuming they'll include having strong and demonstrable Evertonian credentials as a pre-requisite.

It absolutely reeks

Like I said earlier I've yet to speak to any Evertonian who was...
A. surveyed
B. knew of the existence of this self appointed group
C. has any idea who any of this group are

For a group claiming to represent all of us, none of us have a clue who or what this ESSG are.
