In a KO tournament, the home advantage can be rather tense and counterproductive if things don't go according to plan as in the first half yesterday. Once they quiet the fans down the silence can be lethal. Host nations lose tournaments all the time, and it didn't do Brazil any favors!

Its slightly different.

In normal circumstances you have a host nation and you have the other nations fans in attendance from all over the globe.

The situation right now is largely partisan as most of the fans in attendance will be from England (or any of the other nations who have hosted games) with a couple of fans of the other teams who were lucky enough to be in the country already or could travel from an eligible place.

Not much can be done about that of course but it is a bit different.

if by 'matched' you mean successfully stuck 10 men behind the ball and didnt emerge from their own half after they scored, then yes they matched us.

Well they are not as good a team as England. They obviously had some issues with fitness too.
