Nationalism or un-nationalism?

Either way none of us choose where we were born. I neither hate or love the UK, it was just the bit of rock I was born on. Some of it is boss, some of it is rubbish. Same as anywhere.

Indeed.

It just seems strange that people who are against nationalism then claim to be proud to be from Liverpool, or whatever city they hail.

It wasn't their choice, why should they be any more proud of that?

Loving the country you were born doesn't make you disparage or admire any less the other places of the world.

Well it’s about time and it took playing at home, again, and the easiest route to a final anyone ever seen. England have to be favourites now, all pressure on them for the Euro League Cup.
I haven't heard one media outlet in this country bring up the matter of massive home advantage for that lot.

If Italy were playing the final in Rome, having played all but one of 6 other games in Rome, there would be a massive outcry of foul play.

When Italy win this on Sunday they will be truly worthy champions of Europe, unlike England who will never have earned the right to legitimacy.

tell that to the French, Italians or Germans.

it's always surprised me how much the liberal elite here fawn over France and French culture for example, whereas the French in totality have outright contempt for us and our culture.
Rubbish.
Yer typical frenchy couldn't give a flying one about about brits and our culture.
Must admit a lot of the Paris smartarses admire and try to copy Anglophone culture, language and full on free market capitalism.

Gotcha, yeah agreed.

Even the Liverpool/City stuff, Liverpool, "best city in the world" I mean yeah it has some great things but it also has some absolute horrid things, like any other city or place. At the same time the whole "Liverpool is crap" stuff is annoying too as its obviously not.

Your point made zero sense.

"Nationalism is for losers"
"Tell that to other nations"

It doesn't change the point at all? Unless you think every single person in those nations is nationalistic?
I dont think nationalism in the way you view it, is frowned upon in countries such as Italy or France frankly. But perhaps you accept that, which is why you felt the need to insult them in their own language.

And?

I think ALL nationalism is bad. Not in the UK, all of it. It's dangerous, always has been.

France has had loads of issues with nationalism, it's a very diverse nation.

Thats where we differ, I believe nationalism gives a country strength of unity and purpose. Politicians have of course misused it for political gain.

Let me guess your prediction is that England WILL get destroyed but if they do win it will because of being at home.

How is playing in a home environment cheating. If Everton played every round of the FA cup, to the semi final, at home and won the bloody thing I guess you will be calling Everton cheats as well. I guess if Germany win it in 3 years time they will be cheats, I guess Uruguay in 1930 were cheats, etc. etc. and bloody etc. I have just looked at World Cups as it intrigued me to find out how many host nations have won it and the answer is 6, so it is not the be all. You have to have the team and players to back it up and perform under that pressure.

Of course home advantage can affect the performance, however the extra pressure can also do strange things. We went out and did the job, deserved to win on merit, yes the penalty was extremely soft but the one that was not given was a penalty, in my opinion.

You are one very very strange person, but I am sure you know that.

What I would say in our 'Tory enabling' defence is that I do not support the fans, I support the football team. Anybody who looks at who else supports a team and then decides to make that his go to mantra for not supporting a team is just plain potty. If it came out that Mugabe liked Oasis and used Oasis songs for political gain, would it stop me liking Oasis,? Or if Boris Johnson suddenly declared his love for Everton and started to use us in political speeches, would it stop me from supporting Everton?.......It wouldn't by the way.
"The penalty decision was extremely soft"

Allow me to rephrase that for you...

"The penalty was won by a cheating player throwing himself desperately to the ground".
