European premier league bombshell.....

Cannot wait. Barca are said to have already accepted it, they are off, the 6 from here will follow, we are going to be the kings of the league, amazing

Way more nuanced that that Orly, in terms of Barca, they will have to get it through a members vote & it's easy to make sweeping statements the night you resign. Not to mention Barca board have voted on something which remains hypothetical at the moment

Secondly, no one is leaving any leagues, not suggested at all

presumably, though if there is only five spots then its going to be awkward for at least one of them

I think you're mixing the two; Big Picture is EFL funding in exchange for PL 6 taking control of the voting block, getting rid of carabao, charity shield & 18 team PL rather than European Super league

They aren’t leaving their domestic leagues.

That has to be the response of the domestic leagues though - for a start, letting these have permanent access to that much money is going to further kill competition in the affected leagues. Secondly, they are not going to be fielding their best teams in the league any more - there isnt any incentive to do it (since they no longer need to finish in the top four).

Most importantly though this is going to trash the next TV deal, and thats assuming they don't turn around and demand the right to sell their own games (which will further entrench them). The PL is not going to be a premium product and its every other club who are going to pay the price for it.

To use an Americanism, these proposals are a clear and present danger to the 14 clubs specifically and English football generally. The 14 clubs have to use the most powerful weapon they have, which is work with the EPL to restore some form of fairness to English football and ultimately to expel the traitor clubs from the league.

they are linked though - ESL is five clubs, BP was six but you wonder whether the sixth knew that beforehand

this is very fair, but I think the suggestion that they will be jibbing off the PL is not up there with the reality. From what I have read, the suggested format would be 18 teams, in two round robins (I think 8 games each) plus two legged knockouts from a last 8, I think all this is in reality its a powergrab from FIFA to replace UEFA has the owner of the european club competition & how they are going to sell it to teams is with more cash and a walled garden for the 12 teams... on a day to day PL POV, I don't see it having a dramatic impact assuming they are not trying to compete in CL concurrently

Fair - I've always argued that Big picture was just a "Sh*t Stirring" mechanic to force a review & change rather than something they were actually expecting to get through.

They won't be jibbing off, no - they want to have their cake and eat it.

My point was those of us who support the clubs who would end up squabbling over crumbs thanks to this, without any hope of ever getting access to this money or even realistically winning anything ever again, should boot them out if this is what they want to do. They (edit: the 14) already have the numbers and as I said this has to be done as self-defence. The only meaningful objection to it is that TV revenues would go down, but they are going to go down anyway when they do this.

18 team pl works for me. Boot the 5 clubs out of the league, and have a playoff of sorts between the teams facing relegation and those that didn't finish top 2 in the championship to figure out the remaining spots. Home and home's between all teams, teams with the most points make the jump. Then go back to normal.

Barca President Bartomeu quit after a vote of no confidence saying hes already agreed in principle to sign up for the new League

..."Season ticket holders will have to approve a move to join a European Super League but Bartomeu said it guaranteed the income they need to keep the club in the hands of the fans."

And a lack of these funds could leave an already cash short club open to the need for outside Investors...good bye fan control.

more is coming out - this is pretty shocking this:

If this happens, and it looks like its going to, the remaining 14 (or 15) have to kick the traitor clubs out - ideally straight away, but if not then when this starts.

The PL and FA also need to be purged, ideally in a Stalinist fashion
.
Relax. I'm not sure I disagree but relax.
