European premier league bombshell.....

European competition has basically devalued the English cup competitions to a point that even though we'd all welcome a trophy. Logic would see a benefit to us losing to Shef Wed so having fewer games, giving us a better chance of CL or EL. Like It or not having CL opens the door to buying the better players and lifting the profile of the club in general.

Yep but after this ruling if those players are prevented from playing in the world cup and Euros, some will not be happy.

I wonder where players stand in their contracts if they want to play for thier countries but this rulong doesnt allow them. Think there will be some legal ramifocations here.

Short answer: it will depend on the contract. How farsighted was your agent in giving you an out if playing for the club effectively barred you from internationals, and do you care?

I don't know any of the specifics on the associated legal history on such cases, but my sense is that this would be a tough one for an aggrieved player to win in court.

It's nonsense, but typical of FIFA, that players will be the ones punished for owners' behavior.

Plan is European super league instead of champions league and carry on in the premier league as normal.
Just make it a choice, national leagues and World cups, European championships etc.....or European super league.

Only 1 competition a year and only one winner. Can’t see the plastics being happy for too long.

FIFA and UEFA just want to make sure the money stays theirs. If there is enough of it this will go on anyway. Players will take the checks. Maybe not all but enough.

What FIFA & UEFA have done today is a big escalation and piles pressure on. I honestly wouldn't be surprised for domestic leagues to do the same.

significant escalation, UEFA and Fifa must feel somewhat threatened by it to be so strong.

I'm only guessing here and am absolutely no expert, but surely an employment law case would be fairly strong on sorting this in favour of say KDB if Man city joined Project superleague.

You would think after the snooze fest of the project big picture derby from the weekend that this stupid idea would have been aborted.

Covid must be really hitting their yank overlords in the pockets.

Let the Tory scum clubs from Manchester and our city go and play in a boring, tame, no consequence "super" league full of crappy games that don't matter and who no one gives a stuff about - but if they do go they should be booted out of the top flight, and give up their votes/status/say in that league.

I would imagine, theoretically that the contracts could become invalidated and they could leave for free.

If the contracts were registered with UEFA/FIFA and they essentially refuse to saction them beibg transferred (which looks to be happening) they could become free agents. Some will want to, some won't. I don't think every player would prioritise being able to play for thier country but many would. I suspect lots of South American playes would break contracts, and in general players who are younger and up to their peak would as well.

The risk this ESL has If it even has fundijng which is now doubtful) is they are left with over 30's who have essentially wanted to retire from international duty anyway. It's interesting for a few games, but it becomes a bit like the MLS with washed up stars, and tmhe standard of the games, with older players is just not as good.

I've seen WCW v WWE. If they take the plunge (I doubt they will) it could end up a bit like that. WCW had a bit of short term success, poaching the top talents who were older but were always destined to lose as WWF had the history, and the infastructure to keep making stars. What people realised in wrestling it wasn't just the star wrestlers who were key, but the ability to make them star wrestlers. I'd see a similar process here. Unless the ESL put the domestic leagues out of business, they would always just have bigger infastructures to be abkle to outlast them.

BBC:

Plans for a reformed 36-team Champions League which would start in 2024 could be agreed by the end of this month.

European Clubs' Association (ECA) chairman Andrea Agnelli expects the final details - around how the four extra places will be allocated - to be resolved in the next couple of weeks.

If the ECA meets that timescale, European governing body Uefa would almost certainly look to sign it off.

Should that happen it would end further talk of a European Super League (ESL).

Love the proposal about not letting CL teams buy from each other! Absolutely shameless
