European premier league bombshell.....

No but they do it in American football. If they want to build the league with the fuding they are proposing it's hard to see how this would not aim to be global. If thats the case, it's very hard to see how sides playing in one, could feasibly play in the other.
Seattle to Miami is essentially London to Athens. The oceans are big.

Headline says those two article says "big six" (no longer top 6) - Firmly believe this is an attempt to push their agenda on the "strategic review"

14 should ask the 6 to confirm if you are in or out by specific date

Yes. I mean if this is as firm as we are suggesting, it is negligence by the PL to allow them to continue participating and earning (the lions share) of the revenue from your own competition, while negotiating with a rival competition.

That doesn't mean good business sense ought to prevail, but it should.

They've already destroyed the CL tbf, i don't understand how they can still have champions in the title, most of the teams aren't champions.

It's the oversaturation for me that has done it. In the past you remembered the big European games as they were proper events. The appeal was in the rarity of the fixtures, a true test of which team is better in a one off (well two off...) game.

Now you get these games every single season multiple times. It's boring.

Most people love a World Cup, if you held one every year though it would be grim.

It's fairly simple. Tell them they are welcome to leave and join a new money league, but they have to leave the PL and aren't welcome back.
Or tell them they will be expected to fulfill their domestic fixtures over a weekend like every other club. If they want to retain a big enough squad to service two games at the same time that's upto them.

Realistically they will need 1 group of players for 1 tournament and 1 for the other, with maybe ten players straddling both squads. So a total squad of say 40 players. Some of the big European clubs already have huge squads.

Exactly, i haven't seen a cl game for years, it's just dull, you get one or two groups with 3 good teams, most of them you know who are going to make up the last 16 when the draw is made and then you end up with pretty much the same fixtures every year. As a fan you used to relish an english team playing real madrid once or twice in a decade, now they're over here every year facing someone.

If this happens we are doomed. TV money for the PL would dwindle

Possibly not as those clubs are still in their domestic leagues.

This league just replaces the Champions League with more investment and sponsorships.

The reason why they're eager to do it is that those clubs don't have to qualify for it, they're just in it.

That'll be the case. Then they have to take into account FFP (if it's still being proposed) domestically also.

So these clubs will be playing 60+ games a year lol

Anyway, initial thoughts. It's all over the place. I'll probably consolidate them as we know more.

1) Firstly, the crazy timing of Project restart makes sense now. They probably needed to get to a point where more time was available. Essentially making time in the calendar for this competition.

2) Given it is Fifa running it, what do UEFA think? They are not going to stop running the CL/EL. It looks a hostile takeover. Can teams realistically play in both? Are they saying either/or to teams?

3) Same for the PL really. If it runs alongside the PL, how possible is it, without reforms for this to happen? Again, would teams be allowed to opt out of the FA Cup/League Cup? Would the FA allow it?

4) At some point, I sense it will end in court. There is a real possibility, like with cricket that associations start barring players from playing and not recognising the competition (and the net consequence being you cannot be register for both comps). I mean clubs could get around it with 2 different teams.

5) The EFL stuff makes some sense now. If the PL become difficult, jut the EFL and use it to play as a B team. Split your squads.

6) In most companies I've worked for, if members of a trade body or employees negotiated with competitors, while on the payroll, tmhey would be placed on immediate gardening leave. If plans are officially unveiled, there ought to be a response.

7) Up to 5 English teams could mean 2 it could mean 5. At least 1 of the big 6 is out. Maybe more won't follow. Maybe others will fill the void?

8) I think this would be terrible, for local/traditional fans of teams involved.

Overall I hope EPL teams take a strong response, strip any involved of any titles won, and remove them. What wuld be disastrous for English football is if sides were allowed to play both, when you know their primary concern would be the European league. They have to make it either/or and hope some sides buckle.
