European premier league bombshell.....

I know, and I'm saying that relegation at least traditionally is what keeps a large number of league games interesting at the end of the year in a way they won't be in this even if it is "big" clubs playing.

The same with a tournament with groups etc. It adds objectives.

A league is just boring.

Why would anyone want to watch a competition without any relegation or qualification process.

It’s how all US sports are organised, and they think (correctly) they’ll be able to get the TV deals to get it off the ground. Fans (at least those who turn up regularly) aren’t that necessary, they think (again correctly) that most people will turn up and those that don’t will be replaced by higher worth individuals.

So it will happen; the critical thing is that those left behind kick these five out of our league (since no one will be able to compete and their B sides being in it will negatively impact us)and organise a better product domestically (which should be easy given how big the sport is, and how the riches at one of the mega clubs will actually improve players who will want to go to them) and work with the clubs in the same boat across Europe.

That is the only way this super league will be sunk, by a mix of competition from us and ennui from their supporters who are now paying fortunes to watch 12th place United draw with 8th place Roma.

Why can’t they just leave things as they are? It’s utterly absurd that these clubs feel the need to have no competition.

If I was Usmanov and Moshiri, I’d just throw all the money they have at Everton now. Do away with FFP completely.

I will put something forward on it too more substantive below, but essentially I agree. I think quite quickly the aim will be to play around the world, and potentially bring in a Brazilian, Argentinian, USA side as well as probably a Chinese/Asian team.
They might go there but the travel thing is still an issue. I watch some rugby and the advantage that home teams have when clubs from South Africa go to NZ for example or vice versa is massive. Trying to fly from London to Rio and play in a week span is tough and not really a great sporting idea.

you've answered your questiond with your second sentence. Competition - no thanks

I really do hope that the scruffs push it. Even though I believe that the outcome would not be what their immoral board wants, the implosion that we have witnessed over the weekend would seem like a walk in the park once reality hits. Their current customers don't want it. But their owners don't care about them, they are after global customers. It would end with x% of their home games being played in the USA, China, and the like. The Anfield that they know would become a memory as they chase the global cash. It would be the end of what was once Liverpool FC and the full transition to the corporate monster that has been growing inside them. The traditional big clubs of history, Everon, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest etc. would find their way back to the beautiful game. It sounds glorious

No but they do it in American football. If they want to build the league with the fuding they are proposing it's hard to see how this would not aim to be global. If thats the case, it's very hard to see how sides playing in one, could feasibly play in the other.

I'm in favour of them going too. Go, but just know you're never welcome back.

Yeah but the US league are operated completely differently.

Trades, free agents, drafts are what give teams in those leagues the ability to be competitive from one year to the next.

If the 5 PL teams get £300m in just TV money from the FIFA PL then that instantly makes them the best teams in the PL. Unless as you say they get removed from the PL and football leagues respectively.

I think it it posturing for leverage.

The clubs know they'd quickly lose relevance and fans if not competing at the top regularly.

I wouldn't want Everton to join any European Premier League.
I also think it would be a good thing for Everton if it happened.

My concern is that they take the revenue with them leaving what is left behind struggling financially.

If they do leave they would have to be expelled from the Premier league and their players banned from playing for England.
