Pickford is a brilliant keeper and I'm a big fan but on that occasion he helped Watkins score the goal by being in the wrong position. He was kind of caught in no man's land leaving the left side of the goal free. Watkins is quite a poor finisher as well hence his terrible effort in the first half. Not criticising JP as he has kept us up for several seasons but he's probably disappointed he didn't make it harder for Watkins.

Bigger point is we shouldn't be relying on Pickford and the defence having to be perfect in every single game as it's unrealistic.

I also thought Villa were pretty average like they were against West Ham in the cup until they were awarded a phantom corner. Konza, Mings and Kamara all played well. A team like Newcastle has a stronger starting eleven. I can't see Villa finishing top 4. They shaded it last night but it could have easily been a 1-1 and everyone moves on. I wouldn't say they were on a different level which should be a concern for them given how poor Everton were using the ball last night whereas for example Fulham battered us at Goodison yet only came away with a point.

From a Villa perspective....

and I'll start by acknowledging that I'll be seeing the game a lot differently to many of you I'm assuming.

We deserved the win and were the better team. We did create some decent chances and looked more assured on the ball and could and probably should have been 2 up at half time. That has been our failing for the most part in the final third this season - the lack of a bit of calm in front of goal and chances are missed rather than forcing saves.

Second-half we did drop off deliberately I feel and its something we've done many times when winning. Not always successfully I'll add. But I think Emery is trying to turn us into how top European teams play when they get their noses in front and they control the game without the ball, and to a large extent I think it was the difference between the two teams in that we were better without the ball than Everton were.

I obviously haven't seen that much of you but it looked like a typical Moyes team as the second-half wore on with the ball being crossed or put into the mixer and luckily for us we had Mings rather than Torres out there as that's his meat and drink, Kamara and Konsa excelled too.

For the goal I think Pickford made it very easy for Watkins. Not sure what he was doing coming flying out and left part of the goal unattended for Watkins to simply roll the ball in to. Made what could have been a slightly tricky finish into a simple rolling of the ball into an empty net.

Onana - played well and I'm glad he didn't get a second yellow for obvious reasons. But I think the Everton player went down looking for it, and the reaction of the Everton players was disgraceful - rushing out to surround the referee to try and get him sent-off. Every single one of those players should have been carded (I think only two were).

Penalty claim? Not for me. I think that referees and rule makers have lost the ability to call fouls at corners now because they have allowed seemingly anything to happen. The Lindstrom push probably went against him because of how he went down. The follow-through arm from Rogers didn't match the theatrics of the Everton player so VAR probably decided that it wasn't that much of a push as he clearly made more of it than there was. If he had stayed on his feet VAR would still have picked up on the push and may have had more sympathy towards the attacking player. and decided he had been impeded. So, because of that I never really thought and pen would be given - its VAR though so you just never know.

Right result for me, and I think if we had have wanted to we would have raised our game another gear. We didn't need to and as poor as you were I think Moyes will get you playing probably with the same Dyche system, but more direct. What you missed was any creativity so you'll have to play to the strengths of width and balls into the box.

We go on to the next game with 3 hard earned, but fully deserved, points and a farewell to Goodison. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Totally disagree with your view on the penalty decision. It was as clear cut a penalty as it gets. Villa got very fortunate with that and the Onana decision.

As for going down too easy, again I would totally disagree. It was a blatant 2 handed push while in the air. That sends you off balance

Don't really think Villa played well and that's why I'm so frustrated to lose.

I'm a Villa fan and tbh, I wouldn't have grumbled at a draw. We probably should have been 2 up at half time, but Calvert Lewins should also have scored at the end. Swings and roundabouts. Always a really good tussle between the two clubs when we play.

To a certain degree I agree BUT who was the team going for it at the end, under Dyche we`d have defended that game out.

We had chances.... This is Everton FC, we have been nothing for the last 40 years and we will be nothing for the rest of my time on this planet, this club won`t win anything in the next 40 years.
We won the League in 1987 so that statement might be slightly exaggerated.

I know fans from every other PL club and some of them that had gone down, they literally say "What is the point of Everton", never challenging for anything and been circling the drain for years....

Davis Moyes 11 years in charge we only qualified for Europe something like 4 times.... so the idea we qualified on a regular basis is unfounded.

Of course you were the better team you have spent 100s of millions on attacking and midfield areas compared to us and you have a top class coach and are a very good team and yes you were playing in second gear. Don't disagree you could have had a few first half. However while we weren't great, I don't think there was as much in it as you think especially second half, we pressed more than usual and yes our precision of passing was poor (not surprising when we have barely played possession footy this season and Moyes has had two days with the team) but we could have and should have nicked the draw second half and it was a nailed on pen.

Disagree on the goal, Pickford is a high risk / high reward keeper, and his exact same movement stopped a goal in thhe first half and many many many times before in games..

Sometimes it won't work, and that is allowed, but the striker did really well, and timed the shot to go under Pickford.

Better match stats than we've seen.

That's just my view. I thought Watkins had a simple finish for the goal given Pickford's positioning - I had no issues with him being so far out but the gap to his right our left was too big. Agree Pickford did really well in the first half but wasn't he partly well off his line due to the horrific back pass by Young?

I'm not criticising JP. He's a fantastic keeper but I think he didn't quite get his starting position right for the goal.

Bigger issue is that no keeper in the history of football is always perfect. We can't rely on JP to save us in every single game. The team need to create more chances and score some goals.

You can blame a number of players for the goal but Pickford didn't do much wrong. He was just faced by a striker who can take advantage of a one-on-one.
I thought he made it easy for Watkins. But I watched big Nev play, so! I'm not blaming him for the goal. Branthwaite and the other players who were too close to him were at fault and good strikers will hit the target particularly in one on one's. I just thought Pickford could have done a bit more.
