That's just my view. I thought Watkins had a simple finish for the goal given Pickford's positioning - I had no issues with him being so far out but the gap to his right our left was too big. Agree Pickford did really well in the first half but wasn't he partly well off his line due to the horrific back pass by Young?

I'm not criticising JP. He's a fantastic keeper but I think he didn't quite get his starting position right for the goal.

Bigger issue is that no keeper in the history of football is always perfect. We can't rely on JP to save us in every single game. The team need to create more chances and score some goals.

It went under him though, not to his left or right.

Watkins made it look easy, he is top quality, he had learnt from the first half miss when Pickford made him miss, this time it just didin't work.

This part is spot on mate, and it does my head in that every single thing is picked on with Pickford, when those in-front need to take most the blame really.

How he comes out is part of what makes him so good imo....Martinez does the same thing.

From a Villa perspective....

and I'll start by acknowledging that I'll be seeing the game a lot differently to many of you I'm assuming.

We deserved the win and were the better team. We did create some decent chances and looked more assured on the ball and could and probably should have been 2 up at half time. That has been our failing for the most part in the final third this season - the lack of a bit of calm in front of goal and chances are missed rather than forcing saves.

Second-half we did drop off deliberately I feel and its something we've done many times when winning. Not always successfully I'll add. But I think Emery is trying to turn us into how top European teams play when they get their noses in front and they control the game without the ball, and to a large extent I think it was the difference between the two teams in that we were better without the ball than Everton were.

I obviously haven't seen that much of you but it looked like a typical Moyes team as the second-half wore on with the ball being crossed or put into the mixer and luckily for us we had Mings rather than Torres out there as that's his meat and drink, Kamara and Konsa excelled too.

For the goal I think Pickford made it very easy for Watkins. Not sure what he was doing coming flying out and left part of the goal unattended for Watkins to simply roll the ball in to. Made what could have been a slightly tricky finish into a simple rolling of the ball into an empty net.

Onana - played well and I'm glad he didn't get a second yellow for obvious reasons. But I think the Everton player went down looking for it, and the reaction of the Everton players was disgraceful - rushing out to surround the referee to try and get him sent-off. Every single one of those players should have been carded (I think only two were).

Penalty claim? Not for me. I think that referees and rule makers have lost the ability to call fouls at corners now because they have allowed seemingly anything to happen. The Lindstrom push probably went against him because of how he went down. The follow-through arm from Rogers didn't match the theatrics of the Everton player so VAR probably decided that it wasn't that much of a push as he clearly made more of it than there was. If he had stayed on his feet VAR would still have picked up on the push and may have had more sympathy towards the attacking player. and decided he had been impeded. So, because of that I never really thought and pen would be given - its VAR though so you just never know.

Right result for me, and I think if we had have wanted to we would have raised our game another gear. We didn't need to and as poor as you were I think Moyes will get you playing probably with the same Dyche system, but more direct. What you missed was any creativity so you'll have to play to the strengths of width and balls into the box.

We go on to the next game with 3 hard earned, but fully deserved, points and a farewell to Goodison. Good luck for the rest of the season.
Streaky and helped massively by the officials and VAR.

re onana, should have been sent off, and as for our players chasing the ref, your taking the piss.

You only had one booking all game, ludicrous for the number of fouls committed and that they got away with. Who was the home side again?

Your lads threw themselves in the deck anytime they liked and the ref fell for it each time, joke of an official.

You have better players but we gifted you the opportunities, it wasn’t great play from you, and to give this Everton side 50% possession isn’t a good look.

Thanks for the head pat but at least be honest.

Best of luck for the rest of the season.

I know there's not much to shout about but the atmosphere seems to be getting worse by the week. So odd being able to hear individual shouts during the game - don't think there's another ground in the country where that's the case.

That first half must've been a dream for Villa. They come out thinking they'd be up against the crowd and it was actually completely silent.

This is the case for every team we play outside of the top 6 at home.

Villa are clearly a better side than us. They came and did us over in as efficient and professional manner as you'd expect from a team playing consistently for the European places against a team that has been scraping bottom for seasons.

Yet I feel disappointed as we put in some effort and missed a sitter and should have arguably had a penalty. All huff and puff though and not enough quality to beat teams like Villa, but I think there's enough there to move up a few places away from trouble if we play like that consistently. If we improve a little and actually work on some attacking play we could well have the foundations to build on and not have the Villas of this world come in and think the points are for the taking - If Moyes has done that by the end of the season, I for one think he will have had a good start to his second reign.

"You're a biased Villa supporter so let me give you my biased Everton reasons as to why you're wrong" ah, the beauty of supporting football and why glory-hunters will never ever get it. On another note I will miss Goodison and have had some great times supporting Villa there. Its a sad farewell to another Archibald Leitch ground.
Yes that’s fair enough we both see our teams through eyes of a different colour!

This all day long - such fine marginis in the prem, and as bad as we feel liek we have been, a few small changes could get us atleast competing for points much better.

Villa have spent loads to put that team together, 2 of which should still be playing for us, yet they spent the game diving, time-wasting and the non-football stuff to grind out a win against us. Hardly puts them mailes and miles above us really, the are reachable.

Well, you all cried for more possession. We had 50% so I'm guessing we're happier today? I've said it for a long time, at what point do we point fingers at the players? Managers have to carry some blame, but those players are a disgrace. I continually said it under Dyche, he's not telling them to miss sitters and struggle to pass 5 yards. Moyes isn't either.

Watch them and you'll see when one of ours has the ball, the rest stand and watch. There's no running into space or offering support. They just watch. They're lazy, don't care and we're in major trouble because of it.

I'll get hate for this, but the fans are a problem too. Everyone blamed it on Dyche, last night, we had a new manager and from the off it was dead. I refuse to agree with the spoilt logic of "give us something to sing about" Nah, we have one job. Yet we sit in silence and then the amount that left on the 80-85th was a disgrace. 10-15 mins left and everyone gets off.

What's the point of the flags before the game if it doesn't create an atmosphere? They look great and people spend so much of their own time organising it all, for what? A minute and then the fans sit in silence. The fans need to understand, it's ok to hate the players, tactics, manager etc. But when you're in the ground, you should be making an atmosphere. Groans and a tense crowd just because a player hit it out of play, isn't what's needed.

What's all this about Lindstrom going down easily. He went up to head the ball and was pushed quite forcibly by the Villa player. Anywhere else on the pitch it's a foul, so why not a pen.

Sadly i think everyone bar Southampton are better than us. And they beat us lol
We're no better than wolves or ipswich. Not massive margins in it. But still.

I think you could measure the difference in saying that whilst we (Villa) could never say we were totally comfortable when 1 up, it would definitely be true to say at no point were we uncomfortable in holding the lead.
