Everton Agree Fee With Man Utd For Lukaku

So he didn't put the effort in last season?

Started 15 games, scored 3 I believe from open play.

Be interesting to see if Everton gives him a new lease of life - he'll need it if he's expected to be an integral part of a side competing for the top four.

5 goals and 5 assists.

He wasn't/isn't Koemans signing Koeman inherited a very good striker, but that's all he is at the moment very good, not a great striker that's another level he's not at. I'm the years he has been here, he has been poor against the top teams, it's disgraceful we haven't beaten any of Arsenal,Chelsea or Liverpool away in the league since Walter smiths days here and only beaten United away when Moyes was there. I strongly believe keeping Lukaku wouldn't get us any higher than where we finished last season, to much revolved around him, I have the feeling next season it will be a total team effort more Koemans way.

Broke our Premier League goalscoring record in 4 seasons, at 24. He's a great striker.

Is our poor record at big sides away on Rom? Team performances against these sides, on the whole, have been poor. And besides we'd have beaten Chelsea away if it wasn't for poor ref decisions/defending.

You don't think having a 25 goals a season striker, while improving the team in other areas - like we have been doing prior to this transfer saga - wouldn't improve our chances of finishing higher than 7th?

What we need now is a striker who has won a premier league, holds the record for the most consecutive premier league goals scored, a champions league goal scorer and an international goal scorer, who would cost probably 20 million tops. Jamie Vardy anybody?
Or , if not Vardy, could there be any other player out there at all who might fit that description...nah, probably not.

Yeh I'm not a fan of revisionism.

Rom will be missed.

But, I have no doubt we're in a great position to build from here and, overall, improve
Rom will be missed, but not the way he's acted while on the way out. Been very grandiose and dramatic in his talks with the media

we paid 28 million, got 68 goals over 4 years (including his loan) - that's good value for us.
we paid 28 million , selling him for £90 million. that's good value for us. (+62 million)

we are paying nothing for rooney (valued at 10 million +) who they paid us £26.5 million for , utd are paying him £15 million of his wages so he agrees to our pay cut. that's good value for us. (+£51.5 million)

we are getting a £250k a week player for 100k less. that's good value for us. (everton 10.4 million better off than utd would have been paying over 2 years )
they are getting a player we valued at being worth £150k a week, utd are paying lukaku 100k a week more than we would have (utd 10.4 million worse off than everton would have been paying over 2 years)

everton have done very very very well financially in this 13 year striker merry go round.

when rooney left we were struggling to survive and financially couldn't compete and had a thread bare squad . utd were top of their game.
that rooney money led us to a position where eventually we could sign a 'lukaku'

with lukaku going, we are on the cusp of breaking back into the big time ,have financial power and a deep good quality squad.
does lukaku improve much on rooney+ ibrahimovic ? not really.

does rooney + sandro + 90 million to buy a couple more strikers improve on lukaku and kone ? yes .

utd aren't mugs , they are and have paid for good players ..... but at a really high premium and to our financial benefit .

now is the time though where from now on it shouldn't be about our financial benefit , we want success on the pitch and need to be beating the likes of utd.

You get a chance of a generation to cash in on a player like Lukaku. You know that it has to be timed to perfection for a sale at just the right time with a buyer in place and a deal cut that makes all parties very happy. I dont see that here. I see a club like United who have just hit the jackpot for a reasonable fee by their standards these days and they'll only need to pay more if they are highly successful.

We get a lot less upfront than most people were expecting and we'll see that clearly in the next month or so when this market goes insane and figures approaching the Lukaku one will be agreed for players with less talent.

I consider this near enough a mugging, tbh.

Good afternoon David, and what a fine, sunny afternoon it is.
I shall be taking a cup of tea to drink in the garden shortly, but first, I shall open the vaults ....

From the Lukaku thread ( https://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/romelu-lukaku.77973/ ) in March this year :-

I think it's too late for that sadly.

Enjoy him while you can. He'll be playing in the CL next season. He simply cant wait to see if we can get top four next season. It's unfair to expect him too, I suppose.

As said though: the best signing of the last 30 years. He has showered us in goals and we'll get about £70M for him.

He carries this football club.

Joey, he's worth it and more, imo. But those prices are only reached between elite clubs. We will be lucky to get £75M..

Well, we're getting 75 million up front with a possibility of another 15 million, so you were plainly wrong in March !
For now, I bid you a fond farewell and look forward to reading your blustering response later today.

@MorgsGoat, @COYBL25 - I apologise for bullying him again.
