"Everton can win the Premier League"

From looking invincible with 7 minutes to go, 1-nil up at home to Everton...
they might not even be top of the league by this time next week.

Just goes to show how quickly things can turn around in Football.

All we should be doing at this stage is focussing firmly on the next match and doing everything we can to win that.

Are you saying they can't be much if a team like Everton get a draw there? I think you just make my point stronger - they were able to not lose against the most consistent team in the league. OK, we'll know more come January but I still think they'll win it.

The fact that they scored one goal more than the combined total of all visiting teams to the Etihad suggests their goal threat and City's suspect defence will be a defining factor in who wins the title.

It will be interesting to see how much the battering they had on Saturday will effect them. City have Aguero out for a while. Chelsea aren't firing on all cylinders, Liverpool are an up and down side.

I am sure we will add a couple of bodies in January which will keep us right in there.

To be even having a conversation about us being title contenders is surreal - but why not...we have proved we can mix it with they big boys, score goals, win/draw when playing badly, have a great 'feel good' factor about the place.

Need a lot of luck with injuries/ suspensions etc but christ cant a man dream!

I watched some of the Spurs V Liverpool game yesterday. I genuinely thought Spurs could get something out of it and leave us sitting above our neighbours.

Credit to Liverpool for winning the game, but really the story should be about how unbelieveably awful Spurs were. From the kickoff they were played off the field by our neighbours.
Spurs have big problems. On that form they are miles off fourth place.
I think that AVB was made look a better manager than he was last season by Bale and without him they seem to be clueless.

Nah, I'm just saying that fortunes can turn on a dime. Arsenal have been quality, but has their achilles heel just been twanged?

Title challenges can go off the rails and be traced back to a key event or a key match. Remember Newcastle 1996 etc.

Swansea is a tough game, but 3 points from that would put us in a right good position will have 2 home games to follow.

A point wont be bad but looking at the table its clear that we already drew too many games (7 in total, more than any other team), i say lets go all out attack, 3 points or no points.

Soldado shoulder-barged Mignolet at 2-0 (I think) and put the ball in the net. I'm sure quite a few refs would have let it stand.

Paulinho was sent off at 2-0 as well. It probably was a red by the letter of the law but, again, some refs might have awarded just a yellow.

Liverpool were the better team but they also had good fortune.

They have still to beat a top 6 side yet this season though and they've only beaten two sides from the current top 10.

United (h) 1-0 W
Swansea (a) 2-2 D
Southampton (h) 0-1 L
Newcastle (a) 2-2 D
Arsenal (a) 0-2 L
Everton (a) 3-3 D
Spurs (a) 5-0 W

I love it. Not just because it's a rival for a CL spot having troubles; it's a very clear sign to the maniacs who always talk about "cashing in when the value is at its highest" on players. You can't beat having exceptional talent on the pitch for your club. Bird in the hand.

Now granted maybe Bale forced it through in this case but regardless of the specifics here there is a school of thought that you *have* to cash in on people. You don't. You can let them play for you and you can cash in on the CL football they can give your club with their exceptional talents. Selling players like him is a big, big risk. They got very good value in the deal and even so its hard to say they are better off now (although in fairness they need way more time to recover).

Sometimes you have to sell. I know. But we don't have to lie to ourselves and pretend it's a good thing to sell our best players. It's not. It's usually bad. We should hold on to whomever we can at all costs.

We had the most draws in the League (15) last season as well. I think Stoke matched us (so we were in terrible company!!)

I hate quotes like this, we struggled with spurs, but how did we get on against Hull compared to them?

Every game is different.

We actually struggled to a 2-1 win at home. And are you saying that we didn't struggle with Spurs?
Also, 'hate' is a strong word. Perhaps 'dislike' would be more contextual

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
― Sun Tzu, The Art of War

Last year Chelsea were third at this stage on 29 points. 29 points at the same stage this year would have them 8th. Years before that are more similar to this year but not to the same extent. Still think we need to be on 40 at half way to have a chance of top four.

The fact is that we are likely to fall short for obvious money based reasons but the dream is that we go into Easter no more than 3 or 4 off the pace. Can we do it? Yes we can.
