Let us be clear, Woodward does not decide what players Man U want to sign, it has to come from the manager and ergo there must be a discussion.

They'll come back with an "improved" offer no doubt but that's not the point - Moyes would have had the power to stop such a derisory and untimely bid going in.

I love the fact he has thrown in a comment about the timing of it aswell. We truly should throw in a bid for Rooney now, and a serious one, one that will get them thinking. Surely Rooneys ears would prick up at knowing we could actually seriously consider it, even if Stretfords dont......
 
Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting.

The Club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez’s preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway.

How about "I don't think that'll get it done Ed - I can appreciate wanting to get them as cheap as possible but I'd suggest an opening gambit of X."
