Why are we still talking about selling Felli and Baines? In a World Cup year?? We do not need to sell: besides, if we do, who are the replacements? James McCarthy? We were laughing at the RS for paying 15 mill for Joe Allen and now it seems we could spunk money on a decidedly average player FFS Kenwright tell Gollum to F Off !! End of !!

A few very stating the obvious words added to the homepage of the site regarding this thing.

The media meltfest roadshow has rolled up at L4 4EL this week after the news of Everton turning down a £28m bid for both Fellaini and Baines.
In the least surprising football news of the summer, well apart from the Suarez transfer request and subsequent kopite meltdown, a bid was long expected to come.

The main contention with Everton fans was Manchester United´s valuation of both our players. Including adds on we paid around £24m for them both and that was five and six years ago respectively. Since then the club have done a fine job at developing both of them into two of the finest players in the entire league for their respective positions.

When you factor in Fellaini´s supposed fee including a sell on percentage to his former club Standard Liege it´s a bit of a pisstake valuation but I think Man Utd were calculated with it being an opening bid. And for a change it was nice to see Everton react with a strong riposte, although it was notable there was no mention of either of them not being for sale in that response.

I would find it doubtful that both players will remain on the payroll come the 2nd of September as we´ve been here before and we know how it works. This however isn´t bad timing for Everton necessarily.

If you are to take Martinez´s word then we don´t need to sell to survive this year and at present neither player is angling for the move, well publicly anyway. They are also tied up on contracts that don´t expire in the near future.

Replacing them would be a very difficult task as they are two fantastic players and vital to the team, no matter what the demonisation process says if they do leave - they would be sorely missed.

Since were not in a desperate position to sell though the ball is firmly in our court. We are apparently a team looking up the league rather than down so if we are to sell any of our best players then it needs to be on our terms, and our terms only.

We would have to benefit where we could utilise the money gained from their sale of each player to purchase possibly two good players of decent potential. For a squad of our size that could long term be a benefit but obviously its going to cost us short term.

Any of this money used for new players would have to strengthen the team and not just supplement the squad as there would be a giant hole in either defence or midfield, or indeed both, where the former players were. A Gareth Barry replacement or "lets just go with Oviedo" would have lids hanging off director cars´ speeding bonnets faster than you could say Park Food Hampers.

The club will acutely aware of that. There´s also the two other main factors of time and replacement availability. There´s two weeks left before the window closes so something would have to move fast. As soon as any sale is made then the likes of the shrewd Whelan knows we´ve got wedge so the inevitable move for James McCarthy would see him suddenly become very much more expensive and therefore much more of a risk.

Or we could just say do one they´re not for sale and concentrate on the season ahead.

Whichever way it turns, it´s going to be a very important week or two coming up for us. Until that meltfest roadshow rolls out of town anyway.
There´s a thriving forum buried under the homepage on this site if you want to electronically hold hands with fellow blues throughout this ordeal which will be built up to be a matter of life and death throughout. Or you could just relax; its togger after all.

Have a nice day.

I really hope the journalists at Moyes's Press Conference at the end of the week have the cahones to really take him to task. There's plenty of quotes from Moyes's mouth in regards to City's pursuit of Lescott that will have him squirming in his seat.

I don't care that Man Utd have bid for Baines and Fellaini, but he should be questioned:

Why did he let the Transfer Clause expire?

Does he not think making these bids two days before the start of our season to be callous and disrespectful to the Club that gave him his Premier League opportunity?

And when he no doubt tries to dodge the questions or pass the buck, ask him who authorised the bids of such an 'insulting' amount?

In all likelihood though, United's Press Team will have the journalists briefed with a 'don't ask this' list, and a threat of future exclusion from interviews, and we'll hear the usual 'we're not going to make comments about players until they're signed' bollocks.

Mixed emotions about this from Martinez. Happy that he's labelled it a 'waste of time', but the bit about informing the fans when there's news makes me think the exit door is very much open for the two players.

Roberto Martinez has branded Manchester United's approach for two Everton players 'a waste of time'.

The Spaniard's comments came 24 hours after the Club released a statement explaining a double bid from the reigning Premier League champions had been rejected.

"It's been well documented what happened with the transfer speculation, that's been dealt with and it was all a little bit of a waste of time - time I don't want the players to waste," Martinez said in an exclusive interview with evertontv.

"I think the situation is very clear. I think as a football club we will always keep our fans informed. I'm not a big believer in having the window open while the games are starting. I think the start of the season was important for us at Norwich and I won't come out now and carry on talking about the speculation.

"When there is something to tell our fans we will do that - they'll be the first ones to know if there are any players coming in or any players going out.

"But I don't believe in getting involved in the transfer window when the games are underway and we are in a very, very important moment of our season. We're trying to find our feet, we got a good start under our belts, we've got real competition for places and we've got the visit of West Brom at the weekend.

"The players have had the demands of international football and then they started the league with a lot of travelling, so obviously you can imagine it's been important these past few days that we can get them recovered, regenerate them in the right manner and get them ready for the next game. That, at the moment, is our only focus."

TBH many blue fans would have liked to have seen EFC come out and say not for sale at any price for either player , but this then may have upset one or both players and before you know it transfer request many have been issued - making the dressing room uneasy - I think the club played it the right way as every player will have his price, but we want the fullest best price or UNT can get stuffed!

Second guessing here but I think an astute manager would see north of 25m as good business for Fellaini who's a fine footballer but worrying turning into a one in three player. Not that he has stinkers but only plays to his potential occasionally.

Perhaps it's the system and Martinez could get the best out of him but I also believe Martinez has an eye on McCarthy so if Fellaini freed up money for him and another good player then it could be construed as decent business for us.

Again, all guesswork.
