Everton in crisis? - Daily Mail Article

Ok, guess we cant go any further with this till 1st Sept, but the players they sold, it wasnt too keep costs down, both players wanted away and they got decent money.

Anyway, we will review this on 1st Sept, AFTER Villa have spent 37m.

Yes sir. We will, AFTER they use that remaining £20million to not increase debts above £140million this year.

By NOT spending all of it.

The difference between us and Villa that I can see is that they splurged money to get to the crap situation they are in and are now being sensible.

1449: FOOTBALL - Manager Alex McLeish says it is unlikely Aston Villa will add any new faces before the start of the season. "You can never say never but at the moment if we get N'Zogbia, which is looking good, then it's unlikely we will do anything unless there's more trading with the players we already have in the squad," he told the Press Association.

That's after them making plenty of money selling their best players mate.

Damon's odds just shortened against the Goat.

* I told you so as did Neiler months ago

I've mentioned before -

On the back of finishing 4th in 04-05, then finishing 6th in 06/07, 5th in 07/08 and a Carling Cup Semi Final, 5th in 08/09 and a FA Cup final. All that to the minimal net spend of £2mill if that (or something stupid).

But all that's happened is with minor success comes higher operating costs and wage bills. The club have basically done enough to cover that aspect. Then there's a couple of transfers I've mentioned that could've been what I call a calculated risk. Landon Donovan for example in 09/10 was massive. Mr Soccer USA in an Everton shirt would've been HUGE for us.

But in the mix of that there's the hindrence of the loans from the banks, 2 failed stadium attempts, and no one interested in buying the club after the free advertising that was the FA Cup Final viewed by around 200million people world wide.

As for the players...selling player to buy players isnt why we're £30mill in the red. Their wages might, but not the actual acquisition. Unless Pip Green bought us Yak...lets start that up again hehe

Was that success fiscal though, not really, you can pick points out that you can say, if only. The truth beeing apart from last season we have added to the squad and that has been part of our success. The years you mention i am thinking of the players we bought and thinking did they progress us at the time? and im thinking yes they did. You have your Arteta's, Neville, Johnsons, Lescotts, Jags, Yak, Baines, Fellaini's all in there mate. Tbh those purchaes were all made, on the back of borrowings and players sales - which is a large reason for a lot of our debt. Like you say we have been reasonably successfull, we have certainly progressed in 11 years on the playing and non playing sides. The model was sussccfull, but i agree with a lot that say we are threading water, we are. Its glass ceiling stuff we have reached the optimum that model will allow because we have hit the ceiling in terms of what we make. The decsion is to incur more debt or not - its best not to for me. I think everyone at the club and fans knows change is needed, all have acknowledged this - i just dont buy in to the lunatic stuff of consipirocey therios or train sets, TBH you would be mad to buy Everton.

To be honest i dont beleive and maybe its just hope that we have finished our progressin on the playing side. I beleive we can be competitive for CL - that not to say i am saying we are nailed on, but we have the capability to giveit a go and challenge. I was as dissapointed as anyone last seaosn- but beleive it was a shocking under performence and the this team has another 30% in it in terms of performence. I could be worng and if i am i will be the first one looking for the squad to be dismantled next summer.

Which takes me to my next point, we spend a hell of a lot on our current staff and as you say this is largely due to the success they have brought, that team has been backed to the maximum of the clubs resources and a lot of faith put in it, success should breed reward and that is what the club has done reward the players for success (which is rarely anknoledged or commened) - this is not a peptual thing - it has to be constantly raffirmed which is why i say another bad season and this squad should be dismantled.

I think its also important to be aware we ar talking at a specific moment in time and that just over half way through a trasfer window, i am ceratin players will come in, even if others are not, im not saying there wont be outgoings and the net spend wont be that much and we all know who the low hanging fruit is, but there will be additions, so the squad will have no excuses next season.

Basically...yeah.

And not to wind you up...but in the 08-09 season when we had a bid of £11mill rejected for Joao Moutinho because we werent going to punt up a massive fee up front, sums up the "what could've been" to "what has become".

The lid is rated £40million and we've slipped to 7th in the league.

That could've been a punt worth taking if someone, somewhere, got some coin from ANYWHERE and trusted David Moyes to take us up a notch.

But it seemed scary thing for the board to do.

Would people the take Mout over Fellaini?

Not for me like!

*sigh*

When is the clever half of the Neiler/Damon Financial Review Team back on here to go through this?

There is something mildly satisfying, when you spend your load on arguements and resort to insults.

TBF i think you started to early this year mate, we're just barely touching Aug and you may as well be Foreman in the Congo.

To be fair Neiler, its not really an insult. He was told about Villa months ago (by "the review team") and he and others still claimed that Villa had more money than Everton.

Hows that when they sold £37million of players and will only spend £10million of that income and bag the remaining £27million?

Now Davek... by all means criticises Everton's commercial inefficiencies and sluggish commercial revenue growth.

But don't be resorting to the "Get Lerner in" "Get Carson Yeung in" "Get Venkys in" as it's nonsense.

Kenwright is NOT the anti-christ. He's just not good enough to be the Chairman of Everton FC.

He cannot deliver what we need. More capacity. More revenue. Redevelopment. New Infrastructure.

Do you not think Lerner is a good owner though? He spent significant money and is now prudently cutting back. Kenwright has spent very little in comparison (because he hasn't got it perhaps) but we are in the same situation.
