Would you prefer fan ownership, davek? And, if so, what would be your model?

That would be mine.

I understand the sentiment behind it, but fan ownership wont work. It's a pipe dream the way football was set up in this country. I give you the example of Supporters Trusts - set up in many Premier League clubs for over a decade to zero effect (I think the Arsenal trust might have 2% ownership or something daft).

A share issue to part fund infrastructure improvements is a different matter.

You mean like a share issue à la Barcelona (for example, where people would help 'fund' part of the ground redevelopment with their return being reduced/free season tickets for x years and board representation) or a share issue aimed at investors which dilutes current holdings in order to revamp infrastructure?

i really don't care, if the board had said"we are skint and would do a share issue to improve goodison, in return for reduced STs etc" i would respect them more, because it would be a positive step. and would involve the support. but the total lack of ANY kind of plan does my head in.

The Equity Seat Rights plan KEIOC mooted was what I was thinking about. That doesn't lock in board representation to the deal though. Here's the stuff they were bandying about: http://www.seatrights.com/ Take a look at the fan benefit tab.

They wouldn't like to dilute the price of their holding mate, hence no share issue.

I'd say fair enough but they don't invest either so I reckon a share issue would be reasonable.

I think they even knocked back the idea of a seat rights issue too which doesn't involve diluting their ownership at all. Maybe because they want no complications in terms of a new stadium move or because they dont want to queer their pitch to prospective buyers.

They are moribund. No urgency to do anything whatsoever. Kirkby took the wind out of their sales. It really is no exaggeration to say now that the board are totally ****ing clueless.

but it wouldn't, it would be on the basis of loan to the club with benefits to supporters. the club gets money for improvements,at low interest rates plus discounts to STs, and adds value to the club. im sure its been done before.

That's interesting. (I'd seen PSL (Personal Seat Licence) from the States and it was controversial, to say the least, but this is different.) The worry, I would think, is that you are effectively mortgaging some of your season ticket revenue but if you can use the money to get improvements above and beyond (e.g. build more revenue-enhancing features) then I could see it working.

I also think they could do far more with the idea of 'enhanced membership' for non-local fans where you could pay a yearly fee (maybe at different levels) and you would receive stuff that wouldn't cost them the earth (choice of match ticket, even ticket+hotel package, annual Finch Farm visit (see idea of fan days at American football training camps), plus signed shirt, signed derby programme, regular deals on merchandise, etc.) but which would mean something to the buyer.
