Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Landscapes massively changed though.

Can't think of a championship player a team has bought cheap to turn out really good. They're going for £20-30mill a pop.

Same goes for abroad. If you look at Moyes at West Ham. Bowen, Soucek, Benrahma all £20mill each. Picked up Zouma and Vlasic for around £30mill each. So even he's having to spend.

Although the RS have pinched Fulham's academy products - even trying to get a 19 year old Carvalho for £10mill who's contract runs out end of the season anyway.

Wishful thinking but I think those buys are very few now. Yes Gray was £1.5mill for example but those types of deals aren't out there regularly.
The concern will be that there will be backlash from the wider fanbase as we won't be signing 'big names'

Ben Brereton is out of contract in the summer. He'd be a great fit for us as support/back up, or dare I say a replacement for, DCL.
Because he's a free from Blackburn he'd be written off before he even kicked a ball.

The idea is great, but we don't tend to give chances and/or the time needed to these type of players

I'd say literally the exact opposite. The fans are tired of chasing names, just look at the reaction to the Alli signing in that thread for confirmation. Even if they weren't, everyone loves a bargain (people talk about Cahill and Coleman in the context of their fees all the time, even the best part of 20 years later in Cahill's case). Also Brereton Diaz is a really bad example, there's no way people would turn their nose up at the Championship top scorer, only 22, and a regular international.

Don't think there would be backlash especially if the manager wanted him/was scouted well.

We're just not currently ran like that. An owner who wants names and a DoF who hadn't really set up a strategy, chop and change managers every year.

Hopefully it'll change when we look at getting in specialist players in specific roles that film our style

I have concerns about what impact Alli has on Gray's game.

In my minds eye I see Gray being crowded out of this team by the use of Alli.
I don't agree, they're very different players. I can see Ali picking up rebounds from Gray's long shots or being in that position just outside the 6 yard box when he gets to the byline, but I don't see them getting in each other's way.

I liked our signings yesterday but they were very ‘Lampard’. He’s going to need a proper recruitment team and probably a DoF if we are going to sign ‘the next Dele Alli’ which we should always be looking for.

Not bad going into the pivotal second half season for us. Left out the tosh like Begovic and Rondon just because I don't want to read their names.

For all the giving out people do about him - Bill really did some amount of negotiating and dealing in and out in this window which was an incredibly short and intense window and our leverage almost 0 - that's before you think about having to deal with sacking and recruiting a new manager.

I mean we paid DOF a lot of money to not do as much and they to do deals, sell players and balance the books to same extent in the same periods.

Credit where its due, fair play Bill.
