The club has to learn from the past.

Stop signing players who are on their way down and on astronomical wages and get young players on their way up.

Do similar to what Southampton done under Pochettino and focus on younger talents excelling in smaller leagues for teams playing in Europe.

There’s far too much talent out there to focus on players who are done at the bigger clubs.

So, Patterson then.

Your solution to our FFP problems is essentially sell/release half the squad and replace them with yoof from the under 23's on apprentice wages.

That might work on FIFA but its not how a Premier League club operates.

If Delph/Siggurdsson leaves end of the season then at least one of them will be replaced - if we haven't the funds for a quality CM then it will be a cheap player like Longstaff not promoting some 16 year old from the academy just to keep the arl dar's happy from wetting the sheets.
Nar your right mate.

Just do what you want us to down and build a squad of cheap [Poor language removed] players.

You'll get your wish and be relegated.

Pretty obvious Seamus aint going anywhere , so to sign Patterson and rotate the RB position is the way it should be done.
I dont buy it that a player isnt good enough if they havent played in the Prem , Livramento hadnt played a minute for Chelsea but hasnt missed a game for Southampton.

As long as the scouting & homework has been done properly and of course the price is right this is a good move for us. ....if indeed it does happen.

Coleman has another 18 months in the tank, but it's fairly clear that he can't play all the games. We need someone who can come in and play a decent number of games over the next 18 months or so and transition to become our 1st choice RB over that period

I've no idea whether Patterson is up to that, but I don't have any problem with the profile of the player in terms of where he's at in his development right now

Until our FFP situation improves thats the reality of the situation mate not what I want or dont want.

Lowering expectations is in everyones best interest for the next 1-2 windows as the days of us spending big money aiming for top 6 are shelved for now unless we can manage to offload a few players for decent fees or a mega fee for a DCL/Richarlison/Pickford.

It doesn't always but lets be honest 9/10 it does hence why clubs that spend lots of money like Man City, PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Liverpool etc often win shiny things whilst Shrewsbury and Northampton Town dont!

…the aspiration is to buy quality.

i don’t have strong views on Longstaffe but from what you suggest he’ll come in to improve our bench. That’s a nonsense if that’s the aim. We improve from the top down, replacing first teamers who then drop to the bench.

There is inexpensive quality out there, Richarlison cost Watford £10m. Everton pays people £millions to identify quality, we shouldn’t make do with sub-standard, pointing out somebody is better than Delph does not mean we should be acquiring him.

Patterson isn’t ‘excelling’ though.

If you watched Scottish football you’d know that.

Mazraoui, Kristensen, Sugawara, Bah, Gusto. Even players who aren’t playing in Europe but are playing in big leagues like Muldur and Singo who are young talents or someone like Hateboer who’s contract is running down and Atalanta might want to cash in on.

I can’t help but read @Theoneandonly transfer posts in the style of Skeletor facts.

I bow down to your 8 satellite TV setup.

He hasn’t even got 18 minutes. I’d play a 15yr old for the remainder of this season, if it means never seeing Coleman again

Which is difficult when you are posting hundreds of millions of losses, on the verge of FFP punishments and having £1.6 million to sign 5 players the summer just gone!

Thats what people are not understanding - I dont want Longstaff, he wouldn't be in my top 20 choices for CM if we had money to spend but the reality is we dont have money to spend at present.

We'll sign the LB/RB likely from Dignes sale and if there is any money left over we'll possibly bring a CM in to compete with Doucoure/Allen but come the summer when we lose Gylfi/Delph and possibly Gbamin I cant honestly see there being much money available for 1-2 quality replacements on top of a RW like Diaz, possible CB etc. hence why Benitez will look at 1-2 bargain type signings like Longstaff on a free deal.

I’ve hardly seen the lad, but he’s highly rated by rangers fans
( which is obvious I suppose) and has forced his way into the Scotland squad while not being a regular at club level.

You do sound quite bitter about it though, strange how you would join a forum to slag off a youngster we’re trying to buy
