Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

….yes, it is difficult. It’s a dire situation we are in because for years we’ve had individuals bringing in average quality for lots of money on big contracts.

We get out of it by buying good footballers. Nobody is suggesting that is easy but it’s not impossible if we employ the right people and have the right governance.

The fact we have a small spend envelope does not mean we should bring in players who are not good enough or no longer play like the game matters to them.
Actually agree with everything you write, but, due to a thin squad, we need players who can contribute immediately. Players from other leagues usually need some time to adjust to the PL. Players who can be expected to do this reasonably quickly usually cost a good deal of money.

I remember Sheffield United bought Sander Berge, who was considered a great talent and played very well for Genk, and he said he was shocked by the pace in the PL, and needed a long time to adapt. I also think that this season we have little room for experimentation, and the little money we can spend must be spent on players we know can perform a function immediately. Benitez knows what he's getting from Longstaff, nothing spectacular, but a player who can do the hard work.

I can only hope, but his track record leaves a lot to be desired. Mykolenko better be a hit, as it looks like an Usmanov pushed deal too according to news outlets.
I Just cannot get on board with this, multi-billionaire getting conned into crap deal by his mates, theory. It’s just weird

At least the Ukrainian kid is the sort of deal we should be looking at for the 5 years.

Fingers crossed

We have Delph Davies and I remind every one of you, Alex Iwobi
Barkley or Coutinho are a massive upgrade on the above. Anyone who wants to stay bitter about the past, so be it, but don’t whinge the next time Iwobi gets the ball

Bring them both in - loan only!
Barks would never set foot in this place again, and the last thing we need is another over paid, over aged injury riddled ex-kopite

….it’s a fair point, I think there will be players like Berge, there will also be player's like Richarlison who hit the ground running. Fellaini was costly at the time, looked dreadful at first but soon acclimatised. That might be more down to the individual than what they cost.

its a difficult one to gauge but like all transfers, it’s down to a persons judgement.

Yes, it is not exact science. It's not that I want the club to buy Longstaff, but I can understand why, and I think the argument is valid. I do not think Longstaff will perform so much worse than Allan. Despite the fact that the latter is far more expensive.

However, if the club invests in more of these types of players at the next transfer window, then we are heading for a disaster.

What I have noticed is this...

Patterson, 6`0"
Mykolenko, 5`11"

Both quite tall for full backs, I suppose this will help covering the far post and defending/attacking set pieces.

What I will say to @davek is you can coach/train players to be better defensively and positionally, you cant coach them to be taller or quicker. If he was to be used from the bench whilst Coleman was phased out and coached in defending intensively I`m sure there is a top player in there. He has obviously been scouted by our scouting team and the manager feels he can improve him...

There isnt alot we can do about it just support these decisions and hope they come off.

Pretty obvious Seamus aint going anywhere , so to sign Patterson and rotate the RB position is the way it should be done.
I dont buy it that a player isnt good enough if they havent played in the Prem , Livramento hadnt played a minute for Chelsea but hasnt missed a game for Southampton.

As long as the scouting & homework has been done properly and of course the price is right this is a good move for us. ....if indeed it does happen.
Sensible post...
Get a young player and introduce him gradually during the second half of the season .
He can rotate with Seamus and if he is good enough he will come up to speed quickly.

When you look at the Scottish team there are some good players in there, quite a few Premiership players, Patterson has not looked out of place in that company

…the aspiration is to buy quality.

i don’t have strong views on Longstaffe but from what you suggest he’ll come in to improve our bench. That’s a nonsense if that’s the aim. We improve from the top down, replacing first teamers who then drop to the bench.

There is inexpensive quality out there, Richarlison cost Watford £10m. Everton pays people £millions to identify quality, we shouldn’t make do with sub-standard, pointing out somebody is better than Delph does not mean we should be acquiring him.
I don't think we've had a functioning scouting system since Moyes left.
