Actually agree with everything you write, but, due to a thin squad, we need players who can contribute immediately. Players from other leagues usually need some time to adjust to the PL. Players who can be expected to do this reasonably quickly usually cost a good deal of money.….yes, it is difficult. It’s a dire situation we are in because for years we’ve had individuals bringing in average quality for lots of money on big contracts.
We get out of it by buying good footballers. Nobody is suggesting that is easy but it’s not impossible if we employ the right people and have the right governance.
The fact we have a small spend envelope does not mean we should bring in players who are not good enough or no longer play like the game matters to them.
Now I know you’re full of [Poor language removed]I've seen him get taken apart in two internationals: against the might of Israel and the Fareo Islands.
I Just cannot get on board with this, multi-billionaire getting conned into crap deal by his mates, theory. It’s just weirdI can only hope, but his track record leaves a lot to be desired. Mykolenko better be a hit, as it looks like an Usmanov pushed deal too according to news outlets.
Barks would never set foot in this place again, and the last thing we need is another over paid, over aged injury riddled ex-kopiteWe have Delph Davies and I remind every one of you, Alex Iwobi
Barkley or Coutinho are a massive upgrade on the above. Anyone who wants to stay bitter about the past, so be it, but don’t whinge the next time Iwobi gets the ball
Bring them both in - loan only!

I remember Sheffield United bought Sander Berge, who was considered a great talent and played very well for Genk, and he said he was shocked by the pace in the PL, and needed a long time to adapt. I also think that this season we have little room for experimentation, and the little money we can spend must be spent on players we know can perform a function immediately. Benitez knows what he's getting from Longstaff, nothing spectacular, but a player who can do the hard work.
I’m pleased you’re satisfied with IwobiBarks would never set foot in this place again, and the last thing we need is another over paid, over aged injury riddled ex-kopite
Yes, it is not exact science. It's not that I want the club to buy Longstaff, but I can understand why, and I think the argument is valid. I do not think Longstaff will perform so much worse than Allan. Despite the fact that the latter is far more expensive.….it’s a fair point, I think there will be players like Berge, there will also be player's like Richarlison who hit the ground running. Fellaini was costly at the time, looked dreadful at first but soon acclimatised. That might be more down to the individual than what they cost.
its a difficult one to gauge but like all transfers, it’s down to a persons judgement.
There are other players than a midfielder who couldn’t get a regular slot at Villa and an out of date injury prone Barca flop.I’m pleased you’re satisfied with Iwobi
Something makes me think its not Rangers ?What team do you support?
Sensible post...Pretty obvious Seamus aint going anywhere , so to sign Patterson and rotate the RB position is the way it should be done.
I dont buy it that a player isnt good enough if they havent played in the Prem , Livramento hadnt played a minute for Chelsea but hasnt missed a game for Southampton.
As long as the scouting & homework has been done properly and of course the price is right this is a good move for us. ....if indeed it does happen.
Uzmanov has had business dealings with Dinamo Kiev ownerI Just cannot get on board with this, multi-billionaire getting conned into crap deal by his mates, theory. It’s just weird
At least the Ukrainian kid is the sort of deal we should be looking at for the 5 years.
Fingers crossed

I don't think we've had a functioning scouting system since Moyes left.…the aspiration is to buy quality.
i don’t have strong views on Longstaffe but from what you suggest he’ll come in to improve our bench. That’s a nonsense if that’s the aim. We improve from the top down, replacing first teamers who then drop to the bench.
There is inexpensive quality out there, Richarlison cost Watford £10m. Everton pays people £millions to identify quality, we shouldn’t make do with sub-standard, pointing out somebody is better than Delph does not mean we should be acquiring him.
