I Just cannot get on board with this, multi-billionaire getting conned into crap deal by his mates, theory. It’s just weird

At least the Ukrainian kid is the sort of deal we should be looking at for the 5 years.

Fingers crossed
This was the type of deal people were hoping Brands would pull off, and it may well be that he had a part to play in it.

Signing a 22 year old and a 20 year old if they happen is more encouraging than bringing in players close to 30.

What I have noticed is this...

Patterson, 6`0"
Mykolenko, 5`11"

Both quite tall for full backs, I suppose this will help covering the far post and defending/attacking set pieces.

What I will say to @davek is you can coach/train players to be better defensively and positionally, you cant coach them to be taller or quicker. If he was to be used from the bench whilst Coleman was phased out and coached in defending intensively I`m sure there is a top player in there. He has obviously been scouted by our scouting team and the manager feels he can improve him...

There isnt alot we can do about it just support these decisions and hope they come off.
I've given my assessment mate: good going forward (as you'd expect from any winger given zero defensive responsibilities); rubbish in defence.

That'll change if he ever becomes an Everton player and defends well.

Best full back in my time watching the Blues was Psycho Pat,six foot as I recall, great as you say for defending crosses at the back stick.

Or, your other reality, in which he signs, hits the ground running and you start cracking one off over another Benitez master stroke signing.
This signing IF it ever happens will be judged - regardless of Benitez.

If he's rubbish he's a Benitez signing. If he's good he's a Benitez signing.

We know this now because we have clarity...after the bell end you backed as DoF was pitchforked.

….from a transfer perspective has anything changed with Brands departure?

From what we know Managers and Moshiri have been bringing in their own players. It looks like that process is continuing.

i think it’s fair to criticise Brands for what he didn’t do more than what he did do.

This is back to basics now. Benitez is calling these shots. Usmanov or Moshiri are merely stumping up the cash or having a word in the ear of the agents of players who Benitez wants....just like BS Billy did for Moyes.

We have Delph Davies and I remind every one of you, Alex Iwobi
Barkley or Coutinho are a massive upgrade on the above. Anyone who wants to stay bitter about the past, so be it, but don’t whinge the next time Iwobi gets the ball

Bring them both in - loan only!
Ratboy should stay away from the club for his own sake.

And?

Saying someone isn't good enough to be in our starting 11 isn't not giving them a chance - Townsend himself said he was coming here as largely a squad player doesn't mean Im gonna moan that he signed.

I also said Rondon would be coming in as cover only.

Longstaff wouldn't be in our starting 11 either realistically - doesn't mean he's turd.
You did that with Calvert-Lewin and even when he was scoring you called it a purple patch.

Actually agree with everything you write, but, due to a thin squad, we need players who can contribute immediately. Players from other leagues usually need some time to adjust to the PL. Players who can be expected to do this reasonably quickly usually cost a good deal of money.

I remember Sheffield United bought Sander Berge, who was considered a great talent and played very well for Genk, and he said he was shocked by the pace in the PL, and needed a long time to adapt. I also think that this season we have little room for experimentation, and the little money we can spend must be spent on players we know can perform a function immediately. Benitez knows what he's getting from Longstaff, nothing spectacular, but a player who can do the hard work.
Unfortunately we have a lot of fans who are very snobbery towards players from lesser clubs.
They would rather spend £30m on a foreign hype job than some proven PL players.
