Everton January 2022 Transfer Thread

Lots of media in Spain saying Coutinho is joining Villa on a loan till the end of the season, some saying there is an obligation to buy. It is believed Barca need this because they cannot sign new players without getting existing ones "off the books".

I personally would not have minded having him in the squad for the £18m fee that was reported and his massive wages. But I agree with you that it doesn't fit to get rid of James because you want players that are physically fit and play within a system and then sign Coutinho.
I think we are lacking creativity in the middle of the pitch, but who do we go for? Lingard? Barkley? There is no one that jumps out as a great option that we could get either on loan or at a reasonable price. So it may be someone unknown to most of us or someone different.
I certainly wouldn’t pay for Coutinho. Villa couid be stuck with him on huge wages for a few years, it couid work out who knows. Again I wouldn’t want lingard, he’s also 29 and will want big money and probably a 4yr deal. Amd he’s to inconsistent.

It’s a tricky one really, I’d prefer a younger player with potential. This kid from Forrest might be worth a gamble or someone in the summer, maybe difficult to get, but kulusevski has been tentatively linked, maybe a
Deal with kean

Kulusevski is like a slippery eel on that right flank.
Just mentioned him. Haven’t read the link yet, but was saying maybe a deal with kean, maybe difficult to convince the lad to come though

I am more than happy to be spending between £5-15m on young lower league talent myself. Sick of the sight of us signing "proven PL players" that have enormous wage demands and are average.

All day long this.

The players like Delph, James, etc. That when they get here it all gets a bit comfy with no expectations- pick and choose when they play and standards drop off.

Young, hungry, up and coming players or players with a point to prove- the sort we used to sign in Baines, Pienaar, Cahill, Coleman, Fellaini, Arteta. I see similarities with Gray, Patterson and Mykolenko.

Thats why I would much rather we go for Johnson of Forest than Coutinho to help develop and grow a club of players that want to be here and have the desire to improve and grow together.

*Caveat- I do have a feeling Coutinho will go somewhere and make a real difference to them ie. Villa.

Could maybe take him on a year and a half loan with the same fee at the end that they owe us for Kean, a kind of swap/sale to help both clubs FFP compliance.

If at the end of the window our business is:
In -
Mykolenko for ~17m
Patterson for ~12m
Brennan Johnson for ~12m
Longstaff for ~7m

Out:
Holgate for ~7m
Digne for about 25m

Are we content? Obviously nobody wants to lose Digne but that ship has sailed. Coming in we have 3 young players with potential and Longstaff all on fairly reasonable fees.

Absolutely. Just look at West Ham - we should have been competing with them for Bowen and Benrahma. Both a bit more expensive than that but well worth the investment. Likely weren't in for them since we'd just spunked a fortune on Iwobi the summer previously.

If we only get two players out the door it’s a fail.

Yes but ideally would see more outs Delph and Tosun primary but would be great if we could get some kind of fee in for Iwobi, hopefully he has a good AFCON and puts himself in the shop window.

I wish we'd focus on procuring a definitive defensive back instead of whatever longstaff is considered. The only actual defensive back is delph so it's pretty obvious why that's unsustainable

Apparently we bid 1mil for longstaff lol
Hopefully he signs a new deal, I’m getting my hopes we get in somebody better for midfield
