I *think* that in an ideal world, he probably suits the sort of player Benitez wants in a 4411/4231 playing off a main striker

However, that doesn't account for the fact that he hasn't been in good form for years, is supposedly really lazy and, to top it all off, earns big money and wouldn't come cheap if we wanted to make it permanent at some point

I'd agree with all that. At his best he was similar to Tim Cahill but he is far from his best and his attitude stinks.

Alli is a funny one.

He's very naturally talented. Obviously gone stale at Spurs.
I think someone could get very lucky if they get him reasonably and get a tune out of him again.

Suspect he is a confidence player.

He's a massive bellend though and on massive wages too. Would be disgusted if we went in for him.

It is a weird one but ultimately players don't sign without some sort of sign off from managers

Even in the case of King, he said himself that Ancelotti promised he'd play and convinced him to come, just didn't happen

Unbelievable how many fringe/hopeful World Cup players look to be staying at their clubs and getting no game time. I thought we’d be able to get 2-3 quality players who were hoping to play their way on to the plane to Qatar. Am I missing something?

The world cup is in November/December. They can move in the Summer if they don't get game time.

I’d be replacing Keane long before Allan who is great when he and Doucoure are both fit
Also why you not playing Gordon over ‘Townie’

I really want to see that front for have a run of games (potentially Gordon for Townsend depending who is in better form). We’d have options off the bench as well in El Ghazi Gordon/Townsend to freshen it up.

There’s just not getting away from the fact that Richarlison and DCL are critical to us, as is Docuoure, as is Mina. It’s the spine of the team. We need them all fit for the second half of the season.

I don't rate Alli. I remember he came on near the end of our cup game last season and was being outran by players who had played like 80 minutes more than him

We never played 4231 at the start of the season. It was 4411.

I know it's small but it's not the same. A 4231 doesn't have that '10' pushing right beyond the striker. But I think the plan is to go back to that yeah.
