Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I must be in a very small minority to be made up with this transfer window. For once, the club haven't splurged a fortune on utter dross to paper over the cracks, committing them to long, hefty contracts. With several of these types of player being out of contract in the summer, that is the time to judge the new owners strategy and ambition. With the breathing space we now have in the table, I'm sure we'll be fine this season, with a steady hand at the helm.

No I think it was expected, we haven’t signed players in each of the last 3 or maybe even 4 January windows, we’re moving away from the dangers of relegation (I hope) to finish in safety. We have some players capable of doing that if we stay injury free. I wasn’t expected any players so a loan is a surprise.

These players havent got a single manager sacked.

Not once have these group of players dialled it in, they have simply followed the managers instructions like the pros they are.
Very funny and i dont think. All these incompetent managers told them to give the ball away all day long. Told all the cowards in the team to be afraid of heading the ball and to make individual mistakes every bloody game. Told to overhit or underhit every cross they put in. Thats if you ever beat a man Jack! You are utterly deluded if you think all our woes for the last few years are all due to poor managers. Probably only 3 or 4 of this whole squad who would last under Moyes. Do you actually watch the games?

  • The most laughable thing from yesterday: the club 'teasing' the fans over the "will they/wont they sign" the ex-Southampton player with 11 goals in his whole career.
  • The most laughable thing today: Evertonians who are congratulating the club for getting 1 transfer done in a window where everyone was agreed we needed at least 2/3 in...even before we lost Mangala and DCL and Broja.

Oh good morning Dave

I’m happier we’ve got Moyes, 9 more points and only one signing, than Dyche, 1 point and 3 panic signings.
It’s incredible the amount of heads I’ve seen explode over the last 24 hours (more so elsewhere than here) after what’s been one of the best months the club has had in years.

Feels like a lot of people pay more attention to football transfers than actual football. The team is flying, scoring some goals and has got us out of realistic trouble, people should be buzzing but more are shouting and ranting and calling for heads because we didn’t sign the new Cenk Tosun on deadline day.

Would’ve liked more but every club would say the same, everyone wants to buy and no one wants to sell. Not many clubs had windows I’d particularly swap ours for.

Always available, can play left and RB. I think he'll get another year and be our 3rd choice RB and LB.

He will be 40 in the summer. Just because a player could play several positions 5 years ago doesn’t mean he will be able to play them forever. There is no world in which a 40 year old outfield player should be appearing in the Premier League. It’s ridiculous.

I don't know how many, if any of TFG people have expertise in recognising levels of footballers talent, but you're assuming that they'll involve themselves in decisions about who we buy, and make bad choices, Moshiri like. Have they done it at Roma?
Fabio Paratici (ex Spurs) is some sort of consultant to TFG.

We have a number of players going out of contract in the summer and we need to find a few from other clubs entering the last 6 months of their contracts and pick up a couple from that market

I think you're correct but I also think we seen to be massively focusing on reducing the wages we are paying and out of contracts naturally demand bigger wages - see Tarkowskis wage for us

I agree, i really do. Squad with injuries is absolutely threadbare and there is a lot of building left to get a squad with proper depth, cover, competition and quality.

Clearly Thelwell and the rest felt this wasnt the time to figure out this exact puzzle, but i sure hope the club brass are aware of exactly how many parts we need to put together in the next window.

There's no getting away from that being a disappointing window. Really feel the loans of Broja and Harrison have hamstrung us, and yes probably still deep in it with PSR, but hard not to feel underwhelmed.

Happy to reserve judgement until the summer but we've got a huge job on our hands. I just hope the decision makers realise the scale of that job.

A loan though, give we have 1 very average striker for the next month or so - it is just common sense really.

With an obligation to buy if he’s playing enough (which means he’s probably good enough)

We’re not signing a decent centre forward mid way through a season, certainly more so when we’re still restricted by PSR.

Otherwise it’s another case of buying overpriced rubbish we can’t shift.
