Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

There's no getting away from that being a disappointing window. Really feel the loans of Broja and Harrison have hamstrung us, and yes probably still deep in it with PSR, but hard not to feel underwhelmed.

Happy to reserve judgement until the summer but we've got a huge job on our hands. I just hope the decision makers realise the scale of that job.

We could have negotiated a settlement with Chelsea over Broja but chose not to.

Leeds asked if we’d terminate the Harrison loan as Fulham were interested but we chose not to.

The disappointing window is in part due to the lack of expertise / business acumen within the club. This will take time to remedy.

I think you're correct but I also think we seen to be massively focusing on reducing the wages we are paying and out of contracts naturally demand bigger wages - see Tarkowskis wage for us
We still need to get the average age down across the squad, its the oldest in the league at 29 I think then, I think we have 8/9 players aged 30+ It's why when it comes to the contracts thing with the likes of Gana and Doucoure, it simply has to be one or the other imo not both.

We aren’t though. There are 13 contracts expiring, leaving us with 12. We have no need to sell either.

We extend gana, probably Begovic, and look to keep lindstrom and Alcaraz possibly.

Thats 9 leaving. One of which is broja who has not offered us anything, even on the bench in the grand scheme of things.

5/6 permanents. 3/4 loans.

That's true, but it's still more than before isn't it?

I think we all know we won`t be spending huge amounts in the summer, I`m sure those saying save the money fully expect the club to spunk £100m or more but that simply is not going to happen.... we all know it, plus players signed permanently now will have been here next season reducing the task in the summer.

He will be 40 in the summer. Just because a player could play several positions 5 years ago doesn’t mean he will be able to play them forever. There is no world in which a 40 year old outfield player should be appearing in the Premier League. It’s ridiculous.
Especially if we can persuade walker Peters to come here...
Younger, instant improvement and can also play both sides

Beto was good on Saturday but Leicester have thrown the towel in, poorest team we`ve seen this season, all it takes is Beto to go back to being the Beto we`ve seen since he has been here all bar that one game or an injury and we are affectively strikerless....

In fairness though, a lot of that is not necessarily the squad, but more Dyche picking very old players like Young. Like if he would have picked O'Brien over Young I'd imagine that age goes down a lot.

Might also have something to do with Moyes wanting a proper look at Broja and wanting to keep Harrison as cover knowing there was little available alternatives without overpaying?

With an obligation to buy if he’s playing enough (which means he’s probably good enough)

We’re not signing a decent centre forward mid way through a season, certainly more so when we’re still restricted by PSR.

Otherwise it’s another case of buying overpriced rubbish we can’t shift.
Just a loan, as cover - we literally have ONE AVERAGE FORWARD

I'm not suggesting we should, just what I think will happen.

But, he's played 104 PL games across the last 4 seasons and your argument works both ways didn't it. Just because he's turning 40 doesn't mean he will suddenly stop being able to play football.

If you look around the league, players are effectively able to play longer now and it's not unheard of that outfield players play until they're 40. Don't forget, Moyes had a 40 year old Giggs playing at Utd.
