Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

In fairness to the DoF, we forget that we were being rinsed by the parasites like Rights & Media which to be honest I’m surprised there wasn’t some sort of criminal investigation into their dealings with the club. If the PL want to promote sustainable finances then these things shouldn’t be allowed in the game. That’s why we’ve seen very little player investment and we got lucky with NDaye and one or two others.

The test will be this summer, how aligned Moyes the DoF and the owners are and what approach is taken. But we will find that out later, the priority in the here and now is safety.
I think we stay up, the frustration is that we`ve got on to the coat tails of the 4 or 5 teams above us, adding a bit of quality will give us a chance to finish above them, but going with what we`ve got albeit adding Alcaraz might see us finish where we are now or a place lower.

Finishing 4 positions higher than we are now would see an additional £10-£12m extra in prize money to re-invest... We sit 16th, Brentford are 11th, 5 points ahead of us and we have a game in hand.

Hopefully the good run continues....

Not thrilled - could have done with (IMO) a LB (though I guess this is now for Young to cover) RM/WM (we will have to make do with Jesper starting with Harrison for cover) & a CF (Beto or Bust - which IMO is not great even if Chermitti is back in 3-4 weeks).

But I'd hate for us to spaff the money on sub-standard players as well. Surprised we didn't make use of our final loan spot though.

We will be ok - but for me this is the end of Big Nose's tenure at the club.

Its a cost benefit exercise mate, say you sign two players for 15 mill, that's 6 mill a year in amortization and paying 80-90k a year is an additional 4 - 5 mill a year in wages each - so your £10-12 mill in placement is actually just eaten up, year one, but that is also a reoccurring cost in the years ahead, you are actually down money.

Compare that to an Alcaraz deal - were in fact you just take on a wage for 3 months and dont carry the risk, but hold the option to make in permanent. Win from a business point of view and win from a risk point of view if it goes South and also if it doesn't.

Its prob the first window in a while were we haven't been a mark or had to go somewhere with a begging bowl.

Something that isnt talked about a lot when it comes to transfers is risk - this has been our least risky window in a while in my opinion.

@davek could have written this post. Hang your head in shame.

It's OK to have different opinions without saying 'but you are wrong' and 'it's a fact'.
I am grown up enough to accept what you are saying and I’m not disagreeing with you at all, I could have worded it better.

However, we have less players than we had at the start of the window, especially up front and two of them were regular starters, so I really didn’t feel it was something that could be argued.

We’ve got Alcaraz in now though to add a bit more quality so let’s hope this upturn in form continues.

Apparently we had enough headroom for 30 million of spending we just never pulled the trigger as no one we liked came availible.

If it was availible, there's no reason not to do it. It would be akin to saying there's no point signing Branthwaite because Ancelotti is here to win now. It's always better to have high rated players in than not, regardless of if they'd make an immediate impact. They may not make an impact but its not like its one or the other, we didn't sign anyone else to say we chose them over a young player.

I'm not even bothered that we didn't sign anyone because Moyes will keep us up regardless, I was just playing along with your open question. I think 3 of those 4 will go on to do really well and if it were up to me I'd have been in on them.
I'd of chose Alcaraz over any of them.
He's creative, that little bit older and has Premier League experience

So we haven't gone with what we've got then?

Would have been nice to get Fellows in as a younger upgrade to Harrison so hopefully that’s one for summer.

We are definitely losing Coleman, Young and Keane in summer, probably Patterson too unless he improves, so going to be looking for a lot of new faces at the back. Once Young goes that leaves Mykolenko as the only LB too.

Thelwell can’t be involved in any of the summer planning for me. He should be removed or put on gardening leave right now and let Moyes’ team of scouts get to work in preparation for the summer window.

Open question,

Of all the PL clubs who bought players for money, realistically, who would you of liked us to sign that non objectively would be a really good signing?
I can only think of Esse at Palace
I think Tzimas is a good signing for Brighton; not sure he would do so well for us though.

Sooo many cry babies on deadline day, its pathetic really.
Is it? The stark reality is that we needed 3 in by all accounts, then lost 3 more and only got 1 in despite moyes saying early in the window (before Mangala and DCL injuries) that we would see 2 or 3. It just rings of ineptitude which, we are very well versed in which in turn, makes it even more poor from those in power.

I haven't seen any crying but a lot of frustration at the s*** show
