Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

If we could structure the deal Beto style with minimal payment up front I could accept 25m for Nuamah. Whether Textor being so desperate for cash makes this more or less likely - I'm not really sure tbh.

Crucial thing is obviously being able to spread whatever money we have across 3 or 4 different players ready to come in and start games.
Yeah, but look where that Beto deal has us now - with a player that's not good enough for whom we still have to pay, leaving us likely desperate to sell him for whatever we can get just to mitigate the loss.

Harrison's not far off that sort of deal either - we basically went after him because we could get him with no loan fee, so no upfront financial hit, and again, like Beto, we're left with a player that isn't getting the job done.

These sort of deals haven't been working for us.

You need to be able to do something with it though, this guy is Harrison with pace. He does have age on his side but he will need a fair bit of work imo.
Its the Adama Traore paradox. Guy is an objectively awful footballer but I've also watched him bully and tear teams to shreds multiple times.

All depends on what the other options are really. Seems like Moyes has put the brakes on this one since coming in so he may have an idea of his own or he may just want to have a look at young Ernest himself.

There's nothing more I would like than for us to sign a goal scoring wide player in the vein of Richie. Would have to be moyes pulling a rabbit out of a hat though as they are probably the most expensive and sought after players in the modern game.

Personally think we could do worse than adding some pace and chaos on the right hand side, but would have to be a deal that works for us of course.

Domestic loan options. IF the club can extricate themselves from the deal for Broja (I imagine there could be a clause in the agreement, given that we had agreed not to pay his salary until he was match fit under the terms of the deal), then who is this 'better player' we could bring in on loan?

Have a look through the squad lists of the other Premier League clubs; it's very slim pickings as to who a) might be available, b) is fit and c) who would potentially make an impact

Bournemouth - just let Billing and Aarons go on loan. Would have been uproar if we'd have gone for one of them (though I rate Billing)
Villa - Philogene? They won't loan him, they need the revenue to cover the Malen deal
Brighton - Moder? Ferguson? lots of spurious links, both injured. Too much risk
Chelsea - Chilwell; left back shouldn't be a priority. Dewsbury-Hall I think could be a good pick up and I'm sure he'd relish some football. Chukwemena is in talks with Dortmund so he's not going to consider us even for a second I'm sure.
City - McAtee; this is the one I feel. Even better if we could get an option into the deal.
Newcastle - Willock? Would be a big improvement on Doucoure, but I doubt they'd let him go with a relatively slim squad.
Southampton - KWP yes, all day. Nominal fee, automatically becomes our best full back on either side. Wouldn't take that loan spot.
Spurs - Richarlison. Would love it. Is it realistic? Probably not.

2 games gone in Jan without no squad strengthening.

Let's see if another game is chucked on Sunday (which is looking likely)

Simply unacceptable to not have had players running through the door on the 1st Jan
I would hope its also related to the uncertainty around the manager possision.

Plenty still on the free agent list but these could have been signed at any point and registered outside the transfer window...

In the last two seasons ben yedder has scored 42 goals in 77 games.

Get him in!!!!

Also how is maxi gomes only 28? Hes been going for decades it seems

Remember seeing an interview with Sir Alex Ferguson and Ally McCoist this summer and he said the most important thing about any signing is making sure first and foremost that they're available (i.e not a crock like Chillwell, Broja etc.)

To be fair, one thing Moyes was always very good at was doing thorough research on players. Maybe it was the Kroldrup disaster that started it but he seemed to focus on a player's character and physical resilience more than anyone else I can think of

There we go, this should just about cover it:

Defintion of a loan: A “Temporary Transfer” shall mean the transfer of a contract registration effected in accordance with Rules V.6 to V.10.

Only ways to terminate said registration:

U.29.1. in the case of a Contract Player, upon it being transferred in accordancewith Rule V.11;
U.29.2. in the case of an Out of Contract Player in respect of whom the conditionsset out in Rule V.17 have been satisfied, upon a Transferee Club effectinghis New Registration;
U.29.3. in the case of an Out of Contract Player in respect of whom the saidconditions have not been satisfied, upon the expiry of his contract;
U.29.4. in the case of a Contract Player, upon his contract being terminated on the ground of his permanent incapacity; and
U.29.5. in the case of a Retired Player, on the expiry of a period of 30 monthscommencing at the end of the Season in which he stops playingcompetitive football.

^ none of the above are applicable to Broja except for cancellation of the contract (U29.1) if us and Chelsea agree on ending the loan and give his registration back.

This little bit alludes to the difference in being registered to a club and being in the squad list when discussing replacing players in a squad list:

"the Board will only consent to the replacement of the lost Player(s) in its Squad List with:
f. any player who was registered with (and eligible to play for) the Club prior to the suspension but who was not included in the Squad List"

^ this suggests there are players at a club registered but not in the squad list submitted.

Of course our hip, cool contract negotiators will, i'm sure, find a way to stuff Broja back at Chelsea avoiding all consequences to us.

I'm sure both Chelsea and indeed other PL clubs would then be falling over themselves to offer future loans and advantageous transfers, with just a wry smile and cheery wave. Sounds like top business.

They haven't worked, but that was the extent of our options. If we didn't have them, then the squad would be almost completely threadbare.
Calculated gambles which didn't pay off, but beggars can rarely be choosers
