Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Signing Chilwell would be completely daft. The best ability is availability, and we need players who are going to be available for selection every week.
Ironically, after 3 fairly injury hit seasons, he's managed to stay fit this season (albeit he has only been training rather than playing actual games)

I think sometimes it's easy to underestimate how much the addition of one thing can - not does - completely change the whole outlook of a side. It's possible that someone with genuine pace who can continually carry the ball 40 or 50 yards for us, or have teams leaving an extra man back in case of the counter etc, could make the whole team look much better as a unit. They don't necessarily have to be amazing to make a big difference.

There we go, this should just about cover it:

Defintion of a loan: A “Temporary Transfer” shall mean the transfer of a contract registration effected in accordance with Rules V.6 to V.10.

Only ways to terminate said registration:

U.29.1. in the case of a Contract Player, upon it being transferred in accordancewith Rule V.11;
U.29.2. in the case of an Out of Contract Player in respect of whom the conditionsset out in Rule V.17 have been satisfied, upon a Transferee Club effectinghis New Registration;
U.29.3. in the case of an Out of Contract Player in respect of whom the saidconditions have not been satisfied, upon the expiry of his contract;
U.29.4. in the case of a Contract Player, upon his contract being terminated on the ground of his permanent incapacity; and
U.29.5. in the case of a Retired Player, on the expiry of a period of 30 monthscommencing at the end of the Season in which he stops playingcompetitive football.

^ none of the above are applicable to Broja except for cancellation of the contract (U29.1) if us and Chelsea agree on ending the loan and give his registration back.

This little bit alludes to the difference in being registered to a club and being in the squad list when discussing replacing players in a squad list:

"the Board will only consent to the replacement of the lost Player(s) in its Squad List with:
f. any player who was registered with (and eligible to play for) the Club prior to the suspension but who was not included in the Squad List"

^ this suggests there are players at a club registered but not in the squad list submitted.

I’m generally not someone who subscribes to the thinking that lightning pace is enough in a player, I’d generally sacrifice pace for technique. But genuinely, just pace- and the threat of pace- is the biggest thing we need.

Now change this to latin and it makes more sense.

Yes and no. Imagine Fulham's Traore in this team. Pace to burn but he can't control or cross a ball. It's pointless

Remember seeing an interview with Sir Alex Ferguson and Ally McCoist this summer and he said the most important thing about any signing is making sure first and foremost that they're available (i.e not a crock like Chillwell, Broja etc.)

I don't disagree, but we've signed a few players on the cheap down the years with chequered injury histories who've gone on to make a big impact. Andy Gray, Peter Reid, Paul Power, Louis Saha, Joleon Lescott, etc

I'm not saying we should be signing Chilwell, but I think you weigh up the cost vs potential benefit of each individual case tbh

Yes a few times, he is pace and nothing else, no end product, for the sort of money involved its very much a 'no thanks' imo. I'm fed up of mediocre players at this club when we don't need them, hopefully Moyes has put the handbrake on this.
Fair enough, totally happy to accept that view from somebody who is actually speaking from first hand experience and not just parroting whats being said by others.

For me its dependent on the fee and the structure of the deal. Shouldn't be a signing that takes up the majority of our available funds as to me it is more of a punt than a 25m signing.

I do think he could be decent for us personally. Good age, in need of some coaching but the one thing he undoubtedly has is pace which is what we desperately need on that right hand side. Wont be gutted if we don't sign him but won't be gutted if we do either.
