Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

By agree, I meant more that Moyes said in his presser that he'll be relying on Thelwell and our recruitment team for support. They will have gone to him with suggestions and now he'll do what he's does best and dither and dither.

So I meant Moyes will have to agree on some of the suggestions and that will take an age.

…hopefully it is now a case of Thelwell pursuing Moyes targets.

We need players in but we also need to make sure they're the right players. I know we need to make sure every game counts but there's still plenty of time in the window left. I'll start to worry if it's a week before the window closes and there is still no movement.

Given Thelwells track record on signing players I would say the worry starts when one day goes by without signing one.

Agree would rather he took the extra days we aren't getting anyone before Sunday so make sure its right whoever we are bringing in. We could press the button on Nuamah and that is most of our budget gone on a player with pace but on mostly potential. In our situation we need a bit more of a difference maker to go into the first team too..

Moyes also has a lot of unsuccessful buys in his recent recruitment for big money:

Scamacca 38 million
Alvarez 38 million
Aguerd 35 million
Ward Prowse 34 million
Vlasic 30 million
Cornet 20 million
Mavropanos 20 million
Hugill 10 million

Not quite the guaranteed success that some appear to think is to follow. Obviously a lot of examples of good buys aswell particularly lower leagues.
Didn’t west ham have a Director of football…so how many are on Moyes or their DOF

Doubt a foreign 20 year old is going to settle quickly enough to affect the next game - always a chance but unlikely.

English youngster with a bit of experience maybe more so - if we can get a Chelsea youth.

We need someone creative and while I can’t be bothered to do the analysis of the stats myself, this article might be worth a look: https://www.planetfootball.com/stat...rope-major-leagues-2024-25-saka-vini-raphinha

It has a few names on it that aren’t worth huge amounts by the look of it although they are in their 30s.

Given what Mitoma has been like for Brighton, I would at least look at Junya Ito to see what he’s like for pace at 31 and if he could be the right winger we are missing

Or Moyes is actually taking a look at the player and realising he's not worth the fee quoted? Which we want him to do.
Exactly, some people are happy for us to spend money even if it’s wasted.
People say he dithers as if every player is going to come to us, there could be conversations happening where players refuse to come, or there is a chain of transfers.
