Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Thelwell won’t be able hide behind the usual PSR and lack of funds excuses that he’s had the last few windows. If he doesn’t get us what we need this month he’ll have a lot to answer for
Excuses? Or widely reported facts? I get the justifiable frustration at the squad quality and league position but he does seem to carry the can for a lot of the problems caused way above his pay grade.

All the evidence shows he’s overseen significant and essential cost cutting for PSR and to seemingly keep the lights on while somehow still managing to put together a squad. Yeah it’s limited and low quality, but there’s been negative spend year on year. Surely that’s just a result of that?

Suggests competence in unbelievably difficult circumstances rather than ineptitude to me. Bills dead, Moshiris gone so he’s the only one left of the old regime to take the blame. Not making excuses for him, just think he gets a raw deal given the state of the club over the last 5+ years

Personally I would have sacked Thelwell months ago, but we are not attractive club to a lot of players, so I don’t expect him to do anything spectacular.
Hopefully Moyes has decent contacts for us somewhere.

Exactly this.

If you say that Harrison is on 80k a week (I have seen reports as high as £100k per week) and we are paying all of it. That is over £4m a year which you could effectively call the loan fee or the cost of the loan. I am assuming/hoping we aren't paying a fee to Leeds as well.

If you take that £4m and find someone like Ernie in Lyon (doesn't have to be him) who is probably on about £40k a week at absolute best. You pay Ernie's wages, give Lyon the rest as a loan fee of about £2-3m with an obligation to buy in the summer for £15m or whatever.

That is an infinitely better option than spending £4m on Harrison who we know is not going to have a future at our club unless Everton are playing at Championship level next season and even then you can debate if Harrison is the way to go.
Havent got good news on that sure its 90k a week, definately think is play him on the left. Looks like has 0 confidence out wide atm also thank god aint bought him
Do people prefer KDH or Chukwuemeka ?

Lets not forget the latter used to play in midfield with Iroegbunam with England Youth and Villa. Perhaps a good combo to reunite?
Kdh for me because of experience going to be a full reset in this team in the summer if have a loan with chance to buy wouod be good imo

Depends if he is staying or

I understand all that but there’s been glaringly obvious holes in this squad for a number of years. He’s not addressed the pace issue in the side, he’s failed when trying to sign an adequate centre forward and we’re having to play a left back who’s terrified of the ball because he’s never had any competition. Teams like Bournemouth and Brentford make our recruitment team look amateur at best.

Same i think has done good job sales and i knk has been tough but agree felt most windows has left us short in areas.

He has been operating in a straight jacket, whilst drowning and on fire. But what little opportunities to spend or loan he’s had have brought in some stinkers. And quite of few of them were obviously going to be stinkers.

On balance he’s probably been average.

Agree re Bournemouth and Brentford yet they haven’t had those issues to contend with, and clearly have more competent ownership (very low bar obvs). As a result more manager stability, clear business plan, actual executive leadership and people able to focus on their jobs. The result being better able to build a team/squad, despite a relegation (for Bournemouth).

In many cases he's probably just had the choice of the leftovers.

Scraping the barrel for sure. Not been many vardys since vardy though - gyokeres could’ve been ours but we didn’t have the money to get it done seemingly.
