Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

I was curious if it was a name that followed him, but it seems they have the same idea.

I think it stems from Moyes being the kind of manager that waits till the end of the window, in order to extract full value.

I know we all want signings yesterday, and we need them yesterday, but I’m much happier if they’re taking their time to be sure. I’d rather we unearth a January Manny Fernandes than a January Cenk Tosun out of desperation to act fast.

It hasn't been an easy week either for recruitment with a new manager and 2 games

But there's no real excuse not to see something happen next week. After tomorrow afternoon it should be a huge priority and we need urgency

Then I won’t believe you. “My mates” don’t really cut it for supporting evidence.
So, as per my original post. His record in the transfer market after leaving us is not great. He favours bringing in crap PL players and he dithers and lets transfers slip through his grasp. But, sure, he should be trusted with all of our transfers!

It’s not like it was invented separately by Hammers fans, though. They knew we used it, and took it on. Just like the way songs follow players from one club to another.

I was as frustrated with anyone with how difficult it seemed to get deals done, but the name always seemed quite unfair to me. He had to make every penny count during his first spell.

I think most would agree - especially given what’s come after - that the care with which he spent money provided better value than most. The ‘dithering’ delivered.

Because of money. When money isn’t tight and PSR isn’t hanging over your head, you can make measured and informed decisions. The power of negotiation is in your favour. When you’re Everton, it’s desperation and settling for a player. It’s overpaying and convincing yourself you found gold when you really only found pyrite.
When money wasn’t tight, and PSR was not hanging over our heads, we were making uninformed and reckless decisions

But, his success rate post Everton does matter. It's not great. Probably the only deals he managed that were similar to what he did at Everton were Souceck, Bowen and Coufal. Another few good players were brought in, obviously. But loads of dross

His dithering and procrastinating used to drive most Hammers mad.

Well we need signings this January. Don’t you want his input?
Input, yes. Not control. And not at the expense of getting some additions in.

We need to do this DoF thing right and let them have the ultimate say, not the manager. Bringing in players that need coaching is problematic when we have Dyche as manager. Thelwell didn't choose Dyche and it was part of his remit to try and bring in some players with potential, when trying to stave off administration and PSR deductions. I think he did that okay tbf. but could have done much better.

I would judge him more harshly if it wasn't for the fact that Dyche doesn't give chances to players, doesn't coach them and plays most out of position.

We know from Bobble that Moyes wants PL proven players. That means crap mostly, in terms of what we can afford. He signed loads of players like that for West Ham. Keane is a PL proven player, Harrison is etc.

If we can find a better DoF than Thelwell, then great, they must be out there. But I want our recruitment team to find us some talent and Moyes to coach them tbh. If he dithers or buys PL proven rubbish, it could be extremely problematic.
