Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Rumours city are willing to let Mcatee move this January and that the player wants to go, quoted as city want around 25m for him, Everton should be on the phone right away offering them whatever they want - exactly the type of player we need to be recruiting.
£20m and matching rights for Jarrad in the summer…

I blame thelwell. He’s been atrocious.
I get that some of ‘his’ signings haven’t worked out, but if you are blaming him then all the DoFs past and present have to be blamed. They all spent horribly (with interference from Kenwright, Moshiri and a number of agents) which meant very little resale value effecting our transfer income and PSR position, despite paying above market value for some which has landed Thelwell with the poisoned chalice of being a DoF with very little financial power.

This is basically it. Like people kind of get fixated on the fact they've spent well, which they have, but they've also spent an absolute fortune, most of it net.

The same for the likes of Fulham, Brentford, Villa etc and it shows.

Like we carry on like 2018 was a disaster after we spent about 200m (100m net) and came 8th. It's a different world.
We spent similar through early doors, which should have formed the foundations of being able to continually use transfer income to help bolster subsequent transfer activity. The only difference really between us and the likes of Bournemouth is that we spent our money earlier than them, and they spent it a lot better. They recruit managers more effectively. This is completely on us.

But how many of those were players he wanted Vs players that are available. He was task was to ensure we had a complement squad with no money to do much, he didn't really have a choice of players, it was more accepting what's there. His hands are pretty tied.
No money?

Beto? Chermiti?

I didnt understand the 2nd half of that.

But Thelwell has been woeful.

We paid money for players over market value e.g. Iceland for £46m. A lot of those player were bought with the objective that we would sell on (if not retaining) at a profit. A lot of our players spent full period of contract here and walked for nothing meaning we have had to rely purely on commercial income and very little transfer income. This has restricted us. Thelwell has therefore had far less to spend than his predecessors.
